I’ve got an appointment to go get those endorsements in a couple weeks because everything is shut down and by appointment and they are weeks out down here right now.

You needed to gtfo of that #### a long time ago. That pay isn't even remotely close to what even a brand new driver should make. I don't even understand how somebody would ever accept it.
Did you just get out of prison or something?
For instance, I got my CDL 5 years ago. Started out at 47cpm. Miles at my company never have been great and it's my only major complaint but I still made 1200-1600 a week with an occasional crazy 1800 dollar week in 2015.
The problem is, 5 years later I still kinda get the same pay at 1200-1800 a week. My cpm has increased to 65 though so I don't usually get the longer loads anymore which kind of pisses me off. I sit around almost 1/2 the week but I make pretty good money for not really doing a lot.
But 300-400 dollars a week? I'd have to drive 3-5 weeks to make what I do now.
Dude you are paying for several other people's Corvette or Lamborghini payments. You are literally giving away 4000 dollars a month or more by staying with a company that doesn't come even remotely close to paying it's drivers for their work.reefertank Thanks this. -
Well this company agreed to pay for my truck school and I had very limited options going to trucking school right when Coronavirus started spiking in March .
I actually was planning on going to my local community college in July - September because I could actually afford it out of pocket but of course the school shut down and probably is still shut down.
I explored options with some other mega carriers willing to pay for truck school but too many of them wanted me to travel far from my home town and weren't paying for the transportation or lodging at school or both those things .
PAM sent me to a school fairly close to my hometown (we had several people from other states there because many schools had closed down).
In fact my last job was at a elementary school (not a teacher/state employee) . Before that I was endlessly applying for jobs for over a year and unemployed.
Basically I had to do something even if I started out making peanuts.
Company I REALLY want to drive for requires 6 months experience (I've got 2 months) . So I'm 99% sure I'm going to Melton Truck Lines. I'm not sure if I want to do flatbed trucking for the rest of my life but they start me at .47 or .48 cpm and I'll be making over .50 after 1 year so that's at least a respectable pay rate.
I'm not super worried about chasing money now. If I can clear 800+ per week after taxes that's extremely good for me as single dude with no dependents or mortgage/rent.
Not saying I'll be complacent career wise , but for the first 1-3 years I'm prepared to take my licks and get the experience I need to have a great pay rate and job that gets me home every week. -
Ok then I misunderstood. I was thinking that you were already driving for them for a couple years still making almost nothing.
If you want to do flatbed then compare some of the companies like Melton, TMC, Maverick, and some of the Daseke companies like central Oregon or Wiley or Boyd. -
Wow. My paycheck this week is ####ing 140 dollars man. Unbelievable. There is no ####ing way that accounts for all my miles driven last week.
I'm getting out of here ASAP!!!!! This is just robbery man. -
Where do you work that you are making .65 cpm? That's insanely #### good money. Whats your average weekly mileage? 3k?
-
And I thought I was poor netting 600 a week fixing computers and going home every single night at 5PM or sometimes hours before that.
I have heard of people at my company making that little of money going solo linehaul. But I have also heard that those folks refuse work that isn't just perfect for them.
Quit. You can make more. -
Naa man that's the only problem I have with Maverick doing glass. They split us up into dedicated and otr even though the dedicated guys do the exact same thing but get paid 55cpm and get 3000 miles a week. I usually get between 2000-2800 a week but would actually be totally fine and never pissed off if I averaged 2500 or more.
The problem is there is the occasional 1400-2000 mile week that is going to make me quit the next time it happens because there's 0 communication while they leave you sitting around for 2-3 days in a truck stop unpaid. We don't get layover pay.
If there was also the occasional 3000+ mile week to make up for the #### week I'd be ok with it but that never happens, because I always have to sit a day or 2 every week.
In the end I average probably 2300 miles a week and I want 2500-3000. I can easily do 3500 in a week but that has happened maybe 3 times in 5 years and usually involved me delivering early and a long dh out of California. -
Even at 2300 miles a week x .65 cpm, that's $1,500. It isn't worth quitting over.
I have to drive 3,200 miles to make the same amount. But I also don't want to do flat bed. I may be quitting soon, unless my boss bumps me up to 0.50 cpm. I don't care to drive my ### off. After 2 years of experience (3 more months), I may just find a local gig. OTR is killing me.
It seems like a lot of these companies are now only offering low to mid 2k miles a week. The future looks pretty grim... I smell a depression.TokyoJoe Thanks this. -
This is why they offer you all these perks... stop driving for all these big companies, it ain't worth it. No miles, low pay... find a smaller company to work for... get a freaking bank loan or ask for a payment plan from the school.Coffey Thanks this.
