yes I looked at Maverick as a starting company and if I was going to live in the east that would be my number one choice for flatbed. If he can get in there from everything I’ve heard and research it looks like a good deal.

Well I take back my earlier excitement about finally getting a load.. I ran 80 miles just to wait over 4 hrs and counting to get loaded at this shipper

I had 0 experience when I started and had to go with a trainer for 3 weeks, 5 years ago but I think it's the same now.

There is dedicated and OTR for both companies but Wylie has the dedicated out of NC right now.

that’s why when I got my CDL I immediately found an hourly job. I didn’t want to spend any time in that truck not getting paid, plus home daily. Keep an eye out for opportunities, they’ll show up...

    plankton Thanks this.

I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Aren't Walmart drivers paid a salary instead of cpm? That's the only one I seem to have seen without a pay by mile basis but then again I've only looked for trucking jobs around my home town

Last I checked they were still Mileage pay plus accessories pay. Accessory pay is stuff like: pay to drop a trailer. Paid to hook up to a trailer. Basically WM paid all " on duty, not driving time" at an hourly rate. Or as an per item rate like the" drop and hook". That was on top of the miles pay.

I'm stressing out for you right now... I don't know how you're putting up with their BS. I would have used my credit card to get a bus ticket or drive the truck back to the yard without asking. That is insane and infuriating. I don't know how any driver, or person in general, can put up with this non sense that i'm hearing. If drivers don't stand up to this garbage treatment then the companies will continue this garbage treatment with the next batch of hirees.

As for flatbed, if I recall correctly, a lot of flatbed drivers had to be let go during the Great recession (decade ago). One of the local companies learned their lesson and now has a small refrigerated fleet.

I have no doubt that we're heading towards a severe depression. These massive Trillion + bailouts is hurting us so badly... and tensions with China is getting worse (trade wars). I personally stocked up on neccessities... for example, bought 6 new pairs of shoes and am thinking about buying 4 more.

I'd stick with refrigerated... but if Prime is anything like May Trucking... God have mercy on your poor soul.

Agreed, reefers will still be rolling when the flatbed freight dries up. I do food grade tanker now so technically still "essential" freight, but even that may slow down in which case I will be jumping back on reefers.

Frustrating about prime is they force you to team drive for a certain number of miles just starting out . And they only give you a certain low amount of money before tax and that amount rises over time until you've ran a certain number of miles . THEN you can go solo and make between .45 and .50 cpm .

Trash system they can't pay drivers right from the get go which I heavily disagree with.

There's just not alot of great options for reefer if you have less than a year experience . Flatbed companies seem to pay more fairly but what you said about freight drying up bc of the economy makes me question it.

I mean technically I see companies saying they need 1 year of "tractor trailer " experience they never specifically say you need certain amount of reefer experience .

Maybe I could flatbed for a while and just sign on with a reefer company later if things really do dry up .

    reefertank Thanks this.

I just did all the calculations based on averaging all my paychecks in my bank account from trucking and I make $17,280 per year after taxes with this company so far.
