Should have given a better title

    Specs
    2009 Freighliner columbia
    Detroit 60
Million+ kms (shes old but has been strong)
Literally a brand new turbo actuator yesterday
    Engine has been deleted

Short breakdown of the problem... while bobtailing the engine runs fine. But under heavy load is when the real troubles start.
Had this truck back and fourth twice to freightliner and still can’t seem to figure this out.

Under heavy load as soon as the turbo spools up to max pressure were hearing a strange “flutter” and then a whistle and then the motor cuts out and we loose all power. The yellow check engine comes on and then de-rates the motor and the only way to “reset” is to shut the motor off and back on.

The only codes that seem to keep coming up are the “turbo actuator” and so weve now put a new one on and its still doing it.

    any suggestions??

I got into this a year or two back.
They had a recall on actuators and turbos on the isx cummins.
I’d take it back to the place you got it and paperwork, they may exchange it, they did mine, took 3 to get a good one, one ruined a turbo, it dumped antifreeze into it.

Did they adjust the actuator after replacing it, the detroit ones just don't bolt on and go.

Why I didn't just replace my actuator, 171702 ftw.

Have you had the vpod checked to make sure it is working properly? The vpod controls the actuator

    mine is electronic yup.

freightliner has had the truck for 2 days now and i think they are stumped. The power keeps cutting out right at the top end of the boost on the turbo.

So I just wanted to reply to this in case anyone sees this in the future.

    So after all this....
    - swapped out ecm for another deleted one (didn't fix)
    - new turbo actuator (didn't fix)
    - found wiring harness broken at the MCM so we were having trouble communicating with the truck (partial fix) glad we found this
    - replaced the manifold as we thought this was causing the truck to loose pressure when the turbo spooled up to max (didn't fix)

Finally after all this we decided to replace the turbo (even tho we all thought it looked good) hope this helps someone someday.
