In my case, it seems like Jrayl has been moving towards automatic more and more recently.. I've been trying to move into a manual for months now to no avail, since that is my preference.
However, since I have gotten to drive a veriety of automatic trucks for most of my career.
So far, my #1 prefered automatic is the volvo I shift, easily controlled, shifts into correct gears reliabilily most of the time.
The Eaton automatic on the other hand is a joke.. I've seen numerous shifting errors with this transmission.. (example, letting the engine rev to 2,600+ RPM before shifting, gear hopping, shift delays, ect.) Another issue is that the transmission has a jackrabbit reverse, it's trying to fully engage the clutch and send you flying towards the dock, so. Backing up is tricky with eaton.

When I was looking for another truck a few months ago ,it took several weeks to find anything. Everything out there was an automatic, had that bendix garbage or in most cases was saddled with both. And when I did finally find a decent truck ,I still had to go to Cummins to get all the stupid crap turned off .Like speed limiter, idle shut off, rpm limiter etc. So yeah, normal trucks are hard to find.

You should invest in a Nexiq usb link and cummins insite software . The software can be had free online you just have to pay for the link box $600-$700 and most people already have laptops

I wonder if Western distributing still runs manuals . I cant see their trucks being spec'd with automated transJForce28 and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
They are not messing around. Their website states the trucks are equipped with 18 speed transmissions and when going into a new truck a driver gets a say on some specs based on seniority.

My Volvo I-Shift started doing that a few weeks ago.
I figured it must have a bad sensor, so I wrote it up when I got back to the terminal.
Our guys looked it over, sent it up to Volvo.
A sensor had indeed failed, and burned up the internal clutch.
One new trans later, it runs beautifully.JForce28 Thanks this. -
