Hi I was just wondering if someone is an O/O leased on to a company like Landstar but they decide to withdraw their employment for say a year and dont drive a commercial truck during that year or their time off are they still subject to random drug test during that time? Thanks

This isnt my current situation im just asking for educational purposes, but I was under the impression if they are not currently employed as a driver because they decide to take a year off from trucking then they would not be subject to random drug test during their stint of unemployment until they decide to gain employment as a driver again obviously..

The company employing you is who is responsible for drug testing. An O/O signs up for a consortium to spread the averages around
No employment, no drug testing.Dino soar, Midwest Trucker and okiedokie Thank this. -

Keep in mind, there are many employers that are not connected to trucking in any way, that conduct random drug tests. If you fail one, even at one of those co.’s it still goes on your record. You may not be able to drive later on, depending on the circumstances.

B.S. Drug tests that are not taken as part of the trucking industry do not go into the drug testing database. Any drug test taken anywhere else is not reported and will have no effect on you being able to drive later.
User666, Roadgeek395 and Dino soar Thank this.
