In California truck drivers are fined for idliing so what do truckers do if

It's been some years and I know Compton ain't nothing nice. I've been some places where most of you are ready to aim and fire.....Camden, NJ comes to mind....I was just poking fun

 

Just make sure before you exit that truck that you go into your logs and change your status from sleeper to off duty.

 

For me "back east" means Reno or maybe Salt Lake City but I'll take your word for it about Camden.
Some of those places back there I've heard stories about I wouldn't go into unless I had air cover.

Oh yeah brother Camden is rough as it gets. I went to deliver there, scheduled for the next morning but drive there the night before. Druggies, hookers, just a run down area. I don't think I got any sleep that night.

 

I think it is a mistake in today's world to make any assumptions about location in regard to safety. I have seen stories over the years where drivers had loads hijacked, been robbed or killed in Main street USA. I live in what is called Phoebus Virginia. It is really just a part of present day Hampton Virginia. I can actually look out one of my windows and look across the HRBT and can see the top parts of the Ships moored in at the Norfolk Naval Base. Even here I don't walk around much at night.

 

The "bad" areas get their rep from the news, music, an such.

Compton is more well known then Gary, Ind. Compton has gangs..lots of them.

Gary probably does to. They also led the country in violent crimes at one point.

Easier to sell Compton then it is Gary. Course you got rappers over the last 30 years putting Compton in the light. Same with the news in the 80s. Nobody knows about Gary, Ind, West Memphis, Ark, etc. Unless you travel through, live there, or have family/friends there. Parts of Chicago the cops don't even go into(I know it's the same in some areas in L.A. also)

You think violence, you think gangs. Therefore one would think LA, Compton, Oakland etc.

You never hear someone say.."I won't walk in Northern va after dark!" unless they live in certain areas..MS-13, one of the most violent gangs. More so then even the crips, bloods, folk, etc etc etc. Yet you never hear about them very much. DC and Baltimore are insane if you go in the wrong areas. An for once I'm not talking about the politicians. lol. gangs or politicians...tough choice.

You'll hear about those Crips and Bloods though. Even though their nowhere near like what they were in the 80s and 90s. You don't hear about Ms13, the various cartel affiliated ones, etc.

@Moose1958 - I agree on your view of Hampton. You can be in a decent part one second an in a bad one the next. Same with Va Beach, Norfolk, hell even Williamsburg. Probably the same in a lot of areas though.

TLLDR version -

Everywhere is dangerous, your never safe. Therefore...make like an owl, an always keep your head on a swivel.
