Just wanted some feed back on what drivers think is fair rates
my payment structure is 30% of gross after fuel cost for first 5000 in gross
and 50% of any gross over 5000. exp 6000 gross = 30% of 5000 and 50% 1000.
Do drivers prefer a percentage or to get paid per mile. if so whats fair per mile. .60 .55
average of 2500 miles per week and 5500 gross
with $1050 guaranteed.
whats good pay for owner to give driver. percentage vs per mile

I have something in the works to go work for a guy who's looking to add a second truck. We haven't finalized the details but we're looking at a base salary with a target of 4k gross to the truck and then a percentage of everything beyond that. He's also going to pay for my access to the load board and let me set up my own loads after he helps me learn the system.
-
thanks for your reply. that doesn't really answer my question tho. im in the same scenario. adding a truck and want attractive pay to give a driver
-
I'm also curious to see what suggestions come in to see how they compare to what I'm being offered. As the guy who would be driving the second truck, I told him that it has to be at least a lateral move from where I'm at, so he's trying to come up with a system that makes 70k achievable for me without resulting in a loss for him. He's determined that I'll be happier if I break out of my big company comfort zone. We're trying to come up with a system where he gives me the tools and teaches me how to figure out which lanes work best for me and then making my financial goal is largely up to me. As the driver, I find the idea very appealing. Maybe a similar set up may work for you?

I thought he gave a great answer. A base guarantee with an incentive to make much more if the truck makes more. Probably attract a few go getters.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Ditto - because you need a go getter.Brettj3876 Thanks this.

Percentage is the easiest to keep track of, never mind all that other crap just a straight % personally I never have, nor will I ever work by the mile and if I decide to add a second truck I would never expect someone else to do it.
If it was day cab work it would be hourly.blacklabel and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
i was asking percentage vs cpm because the drivers who have responded to my job posting and have spoke to on the phone dont seem to understand the potential in getting a percentage. seems like they just want to hear whatever cents per mile. of course the objective is to get an go getter who is motivated.
-
nah OTR. i think percentage is better too. The driver im considering prefers cpm but not sure if im gonna go with him for other reasons
-
where are you at now if you dont mind me asking and why isnt it working out for you that you would be willing to make a lateral move
