Unless they have the options of no forced dispatch, do what you're told. I marked on my application "no NYC" and have been there 5 times in the past month. I hate going there, but it is my job. Get in there around 04:30-05:00 you'll be fine
Badmon, Lonesome, Midwest Trucker and 6 others Thank this. -
most trucking companies are forced dispatched, you go where you are TOLD to go.
some trucking companies have some sort of "agreement or arrangement" with the local companies where you swap out trailers at some location, and THEY go into NYC.
NYC can be daunting, i know, i have been there myself.
but then tell me, what will you say when you HAVE TO GO TO, BOSTON, CHICAGO, Los Angeles, Detroit, or Walla Walla, Washington..???
if you cannot do the job, i suggest you get out now. or buy your own truck, and then REFUSE to go places you do not want to go to. -
You hold they wheel so, no. Unless they have somebody else kidnap you and drive the truck themselves you have the option of not going into NYC just like anything else.

You will be fine. It isn't that bad.
Chicago is worse...ncmickey, TaterFox, Dockbumper and 4 others Thank this. -

Depends on your company... I think I got lucky with my NYC trip. 0200 cross the GWB in the midst of the pandemic, few trucks here and there.. 45 minutes and 30k lbs of ice cream is off my trailer.
However I did s*** myself when I saw cones where I needed to exit. Some of those cones may not have made it, but I made the delivery lol. -
While you are the driver you make the choice every time you turn the keys. In the sense no they cant force you to go to NYC. On the other hand they can fire you for being unwilling to do the job they hired you to do.
Either case if you don't want to do the work you were hired to do, then quit and let someone else do it.buddyd157, gentleroger, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
Now's probably the time to drive into nyc since the corona has crashed vehicle traffic and roads are less congested. It's not as much of a jungle now and a lil easier to get your bearings without all the madness of traffic buzzing around.
