Most of the majors practice this type of training orientation now they are not only making money training as a business they still get a lot of freight moved on the cheap. You haven't lived until you get a belligerent black guy trainer with a white whip handy at the ready for some 11 hr. plus driving .

Just a quick note, i just quit Stevens, to get a better truck driving job with a much bigger company.I worked there for 2 1/2 yrs, learned alot and got experience. But learned that the Arrons Steven(CEO) Todd, Angela, Troy, they could care less about all of its drivers. And they keep making billions of $$$$$ doing this. A word to the wise.....
-
It took you two and a half years to quit Louie? I can only guess that you were satisfied enough to stay for all that time and then left suddenly due to some frustration.
What happened.
Just so you know, I'm an alliance driver who is satisfied with Stevens. -
I worked for Stevens as well for 1 1/2 years they are the worst! When I left the truck I was leasing from them in great condition and turned in my keys, They charged me for everything on the truck including the tread I used as well as new tires all around. Funny I just had purchased new tires on them 3 weeks previously. So charge for tread on tires I paid for and new ones because they were miraculously bald in three weeks. They charged me for an entire new fender but nothing wrong with it when I turned in my keys, one of thier wonderful students probably nailed in the lot. I was hurt on the job and was told I could not go home to heal Stevens doctors had to take care of me and my every need would be taken care of ( motels, food rides to therapy ect.) They charged me for every day I stayed in the motel 2 months worth. These people are thieves and shuffle us through like cattle accually worse. If you would like to be treated like complete pond scum STEVENS IS FOR YOU they lie about everything do not be fooled

something kept you happy for 2 1/2 years. Are you upset that the Arrons make money from their business? A financially sound business, that has very little debt. As far as caring about their drivers, no big company can or does care about the individual driver, it just does not happen.
We all learn something new each day if we choose to. I hope you are happy with a bigger company where you will be cared about just the same. Keep those wheels turning, making the CEO and his family lots of money, until you realize that is what is happening and quit again.
I wish you luck with a bigger company.
I am happy with Stevens, 1 1/2 years as an alliance driver. -
sorry your story does not compute!!!!!!
Did you take pictures of the truck you turned in, before turning it in? Did you do a walk around with Ed, or Jim, to document any and all damage?
Since you broke your lease, they had every right to charge you for new tires, new brakes, new fender....
If you had read your lease, you will be charged for all usage on the truck when you turn it back in, tires, brakes, torn seat, scratches in the paint, deep scratches in the fender that required the fender to be replaced.
You claim you were a lease operator, therefore a contractor, and not an employee. You claim to be hurt on the job. As a contractor you are responsible for your own workers comp insurance. If that is the case, the insurance you paid for each week would have covered your rehabilitation, at a doctor of your choice, in a state of your choice.
What you are describing is a workers comp claim, that since Stevens is self insured, you have to have Stevens doctors take care of you, and yes they will charge you for all expenses, and then you file the claim with the insurance for reimbursement.
It is obvious you did not read any of the paperwork you signed, and just want to bad mouth a company that gave you a chance to succeed or fail.
And something kept you there for 1 1/2 years, and now it is time for you to find another tit to go suck on, until you claim they lie to you, and you bad mouth them. -
Tlea, what YOU fail to realize is that some people have no business, through no fault of their own, leasing or owning a truck. Why does your beloved Stevens Transport thrive on people like this ? It's unethical and wrong.
Let's agree on one thing. Not everybody is as smart as yourself and these people are taken advantage of. That is the basis of Stevens Transport and the industry as a whole. -
I will agree that many people do not belong in trucking, and just as many have no business leasing a truck, as they do not understand they are starting a business, they only see the $$$$$$$$$, which are not there unless you understand what it takes to make a business profitable.
A sucker is born every minute, and many companies including stevens exploit this. The truth in leasing laws is there to protect those signing a lease.
When they do not read the lease, or are pressured to hurry up and sign it, we have other people waiting for a truck, then that is questionable and in my opinion unethical.
Stevens Transport is NOT my beloved. It is the company I work for, I do lease from them, and with my previous business knowledge, I am making it work for me. Would I like to see changes, yes, will I, NO I won't.
Our country was built on personal responsibilty, buyer beware, and respect is earned, not demanded. So many come and post total bull, that I just have to call them on it.
Every company has problems, it is how one chooses to deal with those problems, that will determine if they are happy, and if they like their job/career.JerryC, Dna Mach, Voodoo Pyg and 5 others Thank this. -
Getting some good and timely information pertaining to getting hurt on the job. I'm currently on medical hold for a little mishap I had on the scales at Rawlins Flying J.
I tripped over an electrical conduit and fell real hard. The end result was a dislocated middle finger and a minor fracture on the next finger over between the pinky.
I have learned that at my age falling down is never a good thing with the possibility of dissasterous consequences.
I went to the emergency room. Got Xrayes and even did a drug screen. I guess Stevens thinks I'm out here partying it up when I think nobody is watching.
So far everyone has been supportive. . .Michelle manager of insurance had me sign a release of medical records so the Stevens company Doctor can review them and decied to release me from medical hold.
The insurance I have is Alliance mandatory insurance. The cheap stuff. Hopefully it will be adequate.
I usually avoid hospitals and Dr's like the pleague so I have no experience in dealing with insurance forms or claims.
I'm sure all of this is going to be very expensive. I will post again with the final outcome.
For now I'm waiting for a repower.
This is not easy typing with two busted fingers. . .
-
Sorry to hear about the fall JerryC, hope you mend quickly and cheaply.
TLeaHeart, I have to agree with your comments about large trucking companies and their way of doing business, its up to the driver to understand the companies methods and make the most of the opportunity.
