Random LTL Rants (all are welcomed)

It's a fair argument, cause I did have an incident last year where a shipper at a DC had my ICC bumper latched at their loading dock and I was running out of hours. They refused to release me and we did have to call up our county sheriff's office to respond to a trespassing complaint to get me unlatched. I am all but positive that we lost the account after that incident. I haven't seen a pickup from them since.

 

I told him who I was and that it was my dispatcher that called him in. I explained I was a local driver and was running short on hours and that they refused to release me. We went inside and talked to the guy in charge and they unlocked me. I noticed that they then walked out of sight with a third person that joined them (presumably the manager's supervisor). I was told I was no longer needed and I didn't get to see what happened at the end. Guessing either the manager or the entire facility got cited with trespassing.

I am positive we dropped the account since that stop is on my way to my usual route and I haven't been there since.

 

Yeah. That's exactly the correct response. All the pieces were in the right spaces. I had a signed DR and I cleared the shipment on my handheld. I made the rookie mistake of lingering around long enough for them to send someone out to tell me I couldn't leave. Then I went inside to see what the issue was when all I had to do was leave.

When you close out a delivery you are done with it and there is no way to pull it back up (at least not with my company) Even if the receiver finds damages a minute later as you are leaving, there is nothing you can do except to tell them to call up their shipper.

All this did was leave a really bad taste in my mouth. From now on as soon as they sign I will jump straight into my truck and leave. I'll close out the delivery or pickup at my next stop. It's a stupid lesson that I relearned the hard way.

I managed to make all my deliveries that day but I lost so much time that I caught my last stop walking to her car in the parking lot. She was shaking her head going "had I not need this shipment first thing in the morning, I would have send you on your way. Back in and I will reopen the dock".
