“Autonomous” Car Crashes Into Stationary Police Cruiser, Feds To Investigate

    Federal investigators are looking into a crash that happened early Wednesday morning. According to CNBC, Michigan state troopers were responding to the scene of an accident where a vehicle had struck a deer. The police cruiser was parked with emergency lights on, but was partially still in the right lane of the highway. A Tesla Model Y was reportedly operating in “Autopilot” mode when it crashed into the stationary police vehicle.

    Each time driver puts the vehicle in autonomous mode he has to consent to any accidents like these in the article. So Tesla is relatively safe in this instance. The reason it's relatively safe is because company still has to pay its lawyers to go to court in front of the judge.
    P.S. As far as I know, it all depends on the state laws governing autonomous vehicles, e.g. PA doesn't absolve vehicle manufacturers from lawsuits in cases like these.

    We're gonna have autonomous trucks real soon! All those truck drivers are gonna have to learn to code or something! Maybe we'll have to give them all UBI!

    Also, any day now we'll have a fusion reactor and self-aware artificial intelligence and flying cars!
