I am a farmer in Eastern Washington. I bought a 2004 w900 in Indianapolis. I am going to drive it home bobtail. 2000 miles. I have a cdl. I have a dot #. As a farmer we are essentially unregulated. The truck will have a Indiana temporary. I have never kept a log. Can I just drive it like a car and ignore all the rules? What do I need to know? Do I need to apply my dot# before I role? Company name? Etc. Thanks in advance.

Put a hitch on the back of the truck and haul your car home. You will need a temporary plate or have it registered prior to driving it.
Tho if you dont have a trailer yet for the truck. I would get one out there and get a load to pay for your fuel to get home.Wasted Thyme Thanks this. -
Not for hire on door and drive home on temp. Most won't even do that. Do not put your dot number on it till you get home.
I would insure it on a non trucking,Bobtail policy.Speed_Drums, T.Rucker, Bean Jr. and 4 others Thank this. -
Insurance and roll. Peel off all old markings and numbers. Do not apply DOT #
It is a personal vehicle you purchased for recreational purposes. Not hauling for hire or business.Caterpillar Cowboy, T.Rucker, Bean Jr. and 2 others Thank this. -
I just went thur this myself .. all you need to roll in these states IL, Ia, Ne, or SD is proof of insurance and a bill of sale.. Wy you have to stop at the Port of entery and buy a trip permit and temp. Fuel premit.. I can't tell you about Id. or Wa.
I should work a deal with you and you drive the truck I bought in Ut. I will drive yours from In.and we meet in middle of Ne. Save us both a plane ticket ....LOLCanadianhauler21, Wasted Thyme, tscottme and 4 others Thank this. -

BTW.. I checked into picking up a trailer and loading it..on the way back... its not worth all the extra paper work & Hassell for what it was worth.. thats a whole big can of worms...Fuel milage is not a huge issue bobtailing for me ..thats just me though

Bean Jr. and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
Thank you for the replies. I wanted to find a truck that would haul it and it seems no one wants a load to Washington. So I am going to fly over and drive it home. Should I lower the air in the rears? Everything I bobtail my old truck with the rears full it gets to bouncing back there. I would assume I have to drive through all the scales. I will have the bill of sale, proof of insurance and the temp. Catmando. Where I am Utah is as hard to get to as Indiana. But it was a nice thought.

Circle H.......I'am gonna drop the air down to about 85 psi cause I'am pretty sure its gonna bounce
... the scales... well no comment.. to each his own
