I would probably pass on it, unless it came from a main dealer, then have warranty, my 16 Freightliner warranty was $500 deductible (1 time pay) they’ve fixed parksmart $7000, new def filters, when I bought it with paperwork, no papers, they’re lying.

Need a LOT more info. Depends on the truck, depends on the trucking, depends on the bank account, depends on the home situation, depends on your long term plans.

That truck was just an example - Just wondering if an older truck is a good option.

If the truck is $60,000 and I can put $20,000 down I would only owe $40,000 - cheap monthly payment just wondering would I get a good 5 more years out of it or is new if you can always the better option

New will overall be cheaper if you can wait.

Also, if you have 20k to put down then how much does that leave you with?

It's really a toss up on used emission trucks. Get a ecu print off at the least and see how much idle time it has. Could be trouble free or a shop queen. There's a reason they're selling it and not out making money with it

Only way to consider a 5 year old truck is one with a APU and a ecm download to check emission history.. Then if it’s priced low enough to cover a few emission problems it might be doable.. In 2018 boss bought 2 2018 cascadias and 5 2014 cascadias . The other day he said that the 2018 models are cheaper per km overall then the 2014 models after tows and emission repairs plus a full mpg better on fuel. Now the 2014 models are high miles and engines are letting go . A replacement engine is more than the trucks are worth.

It really seems to be hit or miss with emissions. I know of a fella with one of the early emission trucks (from the late 2000s). Supposedly the most troublesome of the emission years and he's hardly had an issue with it in the last decade.
