IT is by far the easiest job you will ever have, for many this is more money that you ever made in your life so you are compensated for your time and you don't have to pay rent on housing they give you, nor heat, or a/c but the basics.

You put a little gas on my fire when talking about Magnum. J & J Express in Memphis will pay you up to 60 cpm if you can run a lot of miles and get your hazmat. I knew that Crete and Shaffer was up there, I saw another thread where the driver was detailing his experience but the higher pay comes at a cost. Honestly, if an experienced driver is getting at least 50 cpm, they're doing ok.

J&J has got some bad reviews on here and on indeed. I checked them out. Supposedly they are at a sliding payscale that depends entirely on how your dispatcher wants to dispatch you.
Yeah I wouldn't go to Crete after reading Snackbar's thread on here. That really sounds like an awful experience.
I just wanted to point out that there are indeed truckload OTR no touch freight companies in dry van and reefer that will pay you $0.60 CPM with 1-2 years experience.
Also I don't get the "lit a fire up under you" when mentioning Magnum lol? Did you used to work for them or something? They have a thread on here that's popular that's how I found out about them.Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
Oh no lol I actually did talk to them before I went to Climate, but my CSA score wasn't the greatest. That's the price you pay when you have to work for less than stellar small outfits. When I said put gas on my fire, i was talking about wasy to get extra pay, certifications, endorsements, certifications. You were adding on to my argument with the bonuses Magnum offers. IVE HEAR STORIES OF DRIVERS THAT CANT EVEN MAINTAIN THEIR TRUCK AC ON ON A 80 DEGREE DAY BECAUSE THEY WILL GET PENALIZED. if you are MAKING $1500 THATS EQUIVALENT TO $8.92 dollars an hour. JUST REMEMBER THAT 10 HOURS SLEEPER, YOU ARE LIABLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO THE TRUCK. AND IF YOU ARE IN A COMPANY THAT DOESNT GIVE YOU 34 HRS RESET IN YOUR HOME THEN ITS EVEN WORST. THEY DONT EVEN LET YOU MOVE THE TRUCK TO GO EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE WITH PERSONAL CONVEYANCE.

I drive “part time” for the company I work for. I put part time in quotes because I’m going to drive around 130,000 miles this year. However, I have an advantage that I can go in and take the time off that I want within reason. Some weeks I’ll take two days off, other weeks I’ll take 4 days. I’ll run 10 to 12 days and then I’ll go home for four days, whatever I feel like.
I make 50cpm, because I am part time I get no benefits of any kind. I do get their bonuses for miles driven and a safety bonus. But that is it! Averages out to about 51.5 CPM.
Yes there are a handful of companies that will pay $.60 or so per mile but they’re not gonna be as flexible. Flexibility is number one for me at this point. And screw not having an APU or harsh idol conditions. I wouldn’t even do that crap to my dog much less someone working for me. That’s pure nonsense. I won’t work for a company that thinks I should sleep in the truck and be OK with it when it’s 80° outside and 96° inside the truck and the air is humid and heavy. I’d probably pop someone in the mouth and told me to exist in an environment like that. -

No, there's NOT! When was the last time you went to a store and found empty shelves only to be told by a clerk that they couldn't get a truck driver to deliver to their store? The driver shortage is a myth perpetuated by the ATA and the bottom feeder companies they represent to lobby government for any, "solution" (Let under 18 drive interstate? Check. Train high school students to get their CDLs? Check. Bring Jesus and Raj into the country on H-2B visas to drive for 20 cpm? Check.) for a, "crisis" that doesn't exist that doesn't involve paying their drivers a fair rate.
While the DOT is lobbied, lunched and greased (palms and other body parts) by the ATA the Department of Labor is NOT. The DoL says there is no driver shortage. How do they know? Because of supply and demand - if there were a shortage wages would be going up, attracting more people to enter the industry, increasing the supply of drivers until the market reached equilibrium. Instead, there is, "churn". Companies offer sky high bonuses to attract drivers (pay raises mean they have to pay the drivers who stick around for whatever reason more and are harder to pull back when they have enough drivers). The company that paid the bonus is SHOCKED that drivers leave when the bonuses are paid and go to work for another outfit with sky high bonuses.Last edited: Sep 6, 2021
