SSB,
Clearly we are both in different situations and have different thoughts. I agree that I don't want to get this thread locked. I will say that I am vaccinated but also legally carry a CCW in this goofy state of California. Southern California to be exact. That usually confounds people. I completely agree with you about percentage pay. Too many variables so you can't really be sure what the actual load is paying. My guess would be that most companies skim as much as they can off of the drivers. It's the same with mileage pay. They pay you in penny's yet they don't pay you for every mile that you drive. I look at that as theft by the company. I know, I've been told that OTR trucking is piecemeal work. It's only that way because we have let them operate that way.
The company I work for pays by the hour. In my opinion, that's the only way you can get paid for all of your on duty time. And it's a good company. Yet, drivers still complain. I guess that's also the nature of the career that we have chosen. Some complain about the cost of their medical. Just as you have your needs for affordable medical insurance. We pay $286.92 per month now. That includes medical, dental, vision and prescriptions. Is that something to complain about? The company pays for their retirement. Nothing comes out of their pockets. They even have lifetime medical when they retire. All of these benefits cost them an additional $94.00 in union dues? $1128.00 for all of these benefits and yet some still complain. We only work Monday-Friday and are home every day. I don't work too much overtime yet I'm averaging about $6600.00 gross per month.
There are some good companies out there. They are definitely hard to find because most don't leave unless they retire. Take your time and good luck on your search.

A little sad over this opti-idle. It's 105 out right now in Nevada and it still wants to shut down after a few minutes. My old truck at least would idle at or over 95 but this one doesn't seem to have any leway.
-
It's suppose to be continuous after 90...I'd call breakdown and tell them you need a motel because the new opti-idle update has failed and it won't idle in that heat. I have already told my wife, if their truck kills me, the 1st place she is to go after talking to the toaster people is a lawyer...and if I ever get any kind of heat related illness because of their equipment...I'll file a workers comp claim in a heartbeat. Won't take much of a settlement to eat up all their fuel savings from this retarded system.Last edited: Sep 12, 2021

In all the years I have been on the road, I have never delivered to the Henderson, NC Walmart D/C. Dropped there, but told them that my hours are limited, but I could either head for whatever load they have for me tomorrow, or...head for a truckstop.(hoping that they would at least tell me which direction I was needing to head)...they just said head to a truckstop...so I went north and was gonna stop at the Simmons truckstop just over the VA line....5 minutes from pulling in there, a load. I pick up between Statesville and Ashville... totally opposite of the direction I was heading. So, I hung a louie at the next exit and headed back south instead (trying to keep my Canadian languags skills current). Load picks up after 1600 tomorros and dels anytime Tuesday northwest of Cincinnati.

At 1000 this morning, discovered a flat on trlr.
Drove 14 miles to Loves, and took 3 hours to put in bay.1 hour later told they didn’t have any Crete approved tires,so I went across road to TA 4 hours to get called to a bay,and there are 2 trucks before me.
From now on I sit on the side of the road until they come to me.Aamcotrans and Lonesome Thank this. -

IDK?I think it has to do with contracts.

Had a drive tire blow out on me when I was in Texas and had to wait 4 hours for tech, tho at least I made it to a truck stop.
Find it funny cause had truck for 2.5 weeks and had, 2 tires out, and a fuel filter leak last night. Hope this truck not a lemon

I came across there today. I would assume they’re going to close the eastbound lanes to work on those.

Not sure I'd do that. At least at the truck stop you have a restroom, shower and food if you need it. When I had a tire replaced a week or so ago, there were 2 guys on the side of the road waiting for road service, and one had been sitting there since before dawn, but the shop was way short of people, and Love's has a safety rule that there have to be 2 people in the shop. So the one guy couldn't leave until they got someone to come in. They finally got one of the store maintenance guys to put on a yellow vest and come over to the shop office to be the number 2 so the one tech could leave on road services.Jarhed1964, dwells40, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.
