I refuse to remove it or switch it, mostly because some lawyer will have a field day with my disabling of safety devices if something happens.

 

The S series Thermo Kings are just about there. Common rail with EGR, and allegedly good for life on CARB registry. I don't do California so don't know exactly what CARB rules entail. Possibly a similar option with Carrier, but I haven't had one for a long time and haven't read the latest specs. I have TK S-700's and there's no exhaust smoke. Later C-series and the older SB's are mechanical diesels and do make some smoke when they rev up for high cool.

In a sorta full lot, I'll back in next to a tanker because they are shorter and usually deeper into the adjacent space, giving me extra room to work with.

Can't speak to the drivers that do that in an empty lot. I think there's some drivers that just line up next to another truck out of habit, even if it's the only other one out there. Personally I don't do that if I can help it.

 

Poke a pin hole in that back up alarm , sounds like a drowning frog now , did it to my yard dog neighbors were whining.

 

I was at the Chicago 55 in Bolingbrook last week, and the guy next to me was streaming from his phone, thru the truck speakers. It was like I was sitting in the truck with him. Could hear every word. He was sitting in the drivers seat so I rolled the window down and asked him to turn it down. He was very cool about it.

 

If you don’t become immune to background noise and sleep through it as a truck driver, or maybe wake up for a moment and then fall back to sleep, you’re in for a rough career. Lol

Is extremely rare that any of us sleep in total silence.

 

I’ve only hauled a reefer a few times filling in for a guy but I didn’t mind it. What gets me is I’ve seen (heard) a few guys with some kind of whistle on their air dryer. That sounded cool the first time I heard. Not so much by morning.

 

I liked the constant hum of the reefer sleeping. I always sleep with a fan on just for the white noise or the TV on low volume. Taking my 10 doing food service I always put it on continuous. We had mostly TK's but a few older Carriers, they were almost unbearably loud Lol

 

I use to put the lawnmower next to my bedroom window and let it run all night so I could sleep while at home.

If you're tired enough you'll sleep anywhere. I didn't much worry about what others thought when I pulled a reefer. Goto a hotel if you want quiet.
