The nights thing is all a mindset. My first 5 years driving truck I was anti nights. I would complain if dispatch gave me a night run when I was otr. Then I wanted to be local. Slowly changed my mindset a lil. Then I was researching LTL Linehaul and realized it was mostly nights but big money compared to what I was making in the regular company trucking world. I was doing Foodservice at the time so it was mostly early morning with some nights sprinkled in. Then I lost my job and with my back to the wall the first company to call me literally had a weekend off then they called was a Linehaul job. I said screw it. Been doing nights since 2011. So I feel it’s a mindset and a want and desire to make money. I had the can’t attitude towards the nights thing big time too.
Pulling doubles is pretty easy cause it turns better then a 53” but you just got to realize you can’t back up. Most exp guys can after years of doubles can back. Just be very aware before making a turn.
Is LTL the best area of trucking? What's the catch?

nonsense. I trained myself to take 10-15 minute power naps. They’re just as good as several hours of sleep. One of those on a rough night and I’m good to go the rest of my shift. I kick the seat back as far as it will go, stick a mzoo sleep mask over my eyes to block out light, make it slightly stuffy in the cab with the heater and set the timer on my phone and I’m out like a light. I wake up feeling refreshed, wide eyed and bushy tailed. Lol.Rideandrepair and John Joel Glanton Thank this.

I run far enough on my peddle run where sometimes I can’t make it back without one. I don’t know about any bushy tails, but 20 mins is usually enough to get me home.Rideandrepair, Bob Dobalina, ColoradoLinehaul and 1 other person Thank this.

tuesday im nearby,, two trailer route at 10-12 hours ( 12 if i slow down and be lazy)
wednesday and thurs off.. friday im open lately but i average 12-14 on routes i cover
saturday 10-12
while yes i am home daily, you are hardly " home" sleep schedule is fcked beyond repair.. i love it. but im also looking to go owner op, may start on the lease side. drivers who left the company im with all went owner op and run containers to jersey and back, home daily. i have bigger plans than that
when energy drinks lose its effect on my long drive back.. a 15min nap will work wonders.. a 30min nap feels like i slept 8 hours. all this in a daycab, otherwise ill knock out 15-30 pushups depending on ground temps ( the hotter, the less)Rideandrepair, John Joel Glanton and Zoltan1a Thank this. -
