That's because those broken English speaking a##hats.. got a deal on some outdated abandoned strip mall on either Rt 19 or Rt 59..
They conjured up that idea from their gypsy cousins that used to rent old motel rooms by the steel mills around Gary In. That would "Trip lease" cheap steel loads.. back in the 70's & 80's
It's just a place to put a couple desks & chairs and a land line with a card board box as a file cabinet.. I almost forgot.. I'am sure they have top of the line paper shredders .. with a big dumpster out back
Here today ....gone tomorrow...I'am sure if the law shows up to serve them any sort of legal papers .. it's a hair sloan or a take out pizza joint

I don't know when you drivers are going to learn to stay away from the White Volvo running companies of Chicagoland, but I've never heard a success story from any of them. Every single one of them that I've seen has at least 10 different DOT numbers to cycle through. When 1 gets shut down for gross violations, they move to the next. Stop being dumb. Stop thinking that you're going to make a bunch of money. Stop driving for these outfits. They think you're worse than the gum on their shoe, and they'll treat and run you as such. They'll ruin your record and your bank account. And when you don't do exactly what they want or when you've surpassed your usefulness, they'll kick you to the curb like the useless dog they think you are.

In order for someone to get rich some idiot needs to make bad decisions.

like payday loans. Or title loans. Liquor stores in every corners.

this 1099 trucking job is just another way to harvest the fruits of stupidity.

I don’t care for it nor do I endorse it.

but one things for sure the people behind it aren’t the issue. They are doing what the law allows and have found a way to maximize profits.

The gooberment doesnt have the manpower and its getting worse and worse. Until it collapses and a national debate is raised its going to continue.

You have California AB5 or what ever the law was to stop 1099 bs but somehow IC got grouped with it. But many here complained about more regulations. then complain about the crap 1099 companies pull.

Which is it? Let them live or kill them off?

1099 in trucking only works if the driver can pick and choose the times and places he wants to run. That portion of the law isnt being enforced at the moment and i think as misguided the AB5 law was it wasn’t needed. This here Independent Contractor (Self-Employed) or Employee? | Internal Revenue Service needs to be altered and say if you dont own your own equipment and use the companies and have no choice on where to go and when to do it, then you are an employee. If you own your own equipment and can pick and choose you are an independent contractor.

When I ran a small van expedited company (Sprinters and E150 Cargo vans), I contracted drivers on 1099. I paid them a percentage of gross, and made them pay for the fuel. They got the fuel write-off on their taxes, and I would get the write-off for repairs, insurance, brokerage, overhead, and their 1099 wages. They got to take the vans home, and had full autonomy... as in I would call and offer them the load with no obligation and they would accept or deny the load. They also got the choice to turn around and drive home empty or stick around in the current area and see if I could find them a load home or elsewhere. I also paid them the same day they turned in their bills, so I acted as a factoring company, too (I didn't charge them for this, though, it was a part of the contract at net zero).

If I forced the dispatch, I wouldn't have legally been able to have ICs driving my vans.

They probably have a office in a house or appt & rent lot space elsewhere. I started a trucking company in 87 with $50 for a EIN & about $1500 to lease and outfit a furniture delivery truck

Did you get mad enough to sack punch the owner of the outfit? I’d just like to get an idea of the level of your disdain.

That may not be such a great idea. Usually their nephew Nikolay is right around the corner. Nikolay is the 6'6" 250lb MMA fighter/Spetznaz operator that is there to "answer phones".
