Aha. I was thinking regs, not company policy. First, he already said he would talk to the company, but mostly it's rare for companies that pay hourly to hire zero experience people.Don Key Hotey and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Aside from whether you can technically get around it or not is the main issue. That being you don’t want to be operating a commercial vehicle without proper rest. It’s a recipe for a serious disaster.

I totally agree. Both are important to me: not do anything to jeopardize my job *and* get the required rest.

Being new to the industry, I just want to make sure I don't do anything negligent or stupid that could make problems for me or for other people. -
