Chain Pay?

Just a question for the NO CHAIN GANG, have you ever tried running with chains on? It's really quite remarkable how much traction you have with chains on, feel like you could drive anywhere. And it's really not that hard once you've done it a few times.

I've had guys laugh at me for throwing chains but when I'm the only one that could pull away from the up hill climb from the chute incase laughing at them while they waited for a tug

 

I don't want to knock another man's medicine. If you like running west for less cpm and it works in your favor then that's all that counts. You might have a plum gig. But in my case, it is harder. The change of scenery is nice once in awhile, but a delivery in Aurora Colorado means I could have to deadhead in high winds hundreds of miles to Western Wyoming to pick up a load. And deadheading from SLC or Reno back to Las Vegas in the wind is for the birds in my opinion.

Dallas to Nashville is as joyous as a Doris Day movie compared to a Portland to Boise run, battling Mount Cabbage for every inch, hoping against all hope that the ice fog doesn't set in before I get to...Deadman's Pass!

 

I know a few guys that can throw 2 sets of triples on in around 10 minutes and can strip them off in about the same. Practice makes perfect. If you actually hang them and not pile them in a milk crate it saves time. If they're properly installed you don't even need bungee cords.

Yes you can run cables in CA. I never have but have thought about it. Just not sure how they would hold up on Donner when CalTrans has the controls up when the road is just wet. Have I ever told you how much I hate CalTrans. yeah I get it controls go up to control the speed and use us as rolling road blocks but #### you CalTrans

I'm an O/O for 7 years now after 10 years as a company hand.

Things change.

We had to run empty doubles from SLC to DEN often, and I40 from OK to CA weekly . . . I have my thoughts on where company pay scales should be, but I think it's been well thrashed here.
