    I am with a smaller company, they really don't like their trucks and loads stuck in snow in the median or side of the road.
    The way I understand it, if you make the choice to drive thru when the weather and road conditions are bad, it had better be the right choice.

    They never said what the consequences would be, and I don't really want to find out. LOL

    Sounds like my husband's last employer. Told us if we chose to throw chains just to get a little further, we paid the tow bill. If we were throwing the to get to safety, it was okay, but otherwise, the tow bill was ours.

    I'm pretty confident in my abilities on the road. Its all the other goof balls that scare me, many are hardly qualified to drive in the best of conditions are out trying to play bumper cars on bad roads.
    I can be doing every thing 100% right and one of them decides to nose dive under my rig that can ruin mine and his day.

    No truer words were ever spoken!

    When it snowed here in 99, I had absolute faith in MY ability to handle the snow. But I was worried about everyone else. And it's a good thing I was. I was driving even slower than I would have done on roads with folks EXPERIENCED in the snow... when some MORON decided to pass me, on an icy, slushy road! He spun that Buick around in front of me about 4 times before he came to a stop. Had I been moving any faster, me and the kids would have been goners for sure! But, I was puttering along at something around 10 mph... so I could easily remove my foot from the gas if I needed to stop. As it was, he BARELY missed my front bumper. And I can still just shake my head at the fact that I still made my destination MUCH sooner than he did!

    AND this would be why my husband got off the road at noon today. His trailer almost ate a BMW, and he was in his own lane, BMW Broke loose back beside the trailer, started going under, got himself right again, and then sped up and headed for the steer tire. Hubby said "Enough is Enough" and just parked it. Not because of HIS driving, but the other idiots who probably don't really need to be out there anyway. :biggrin_25526:

    I learned to throw chains, and am extremely grateful I did. Otherwise, I would have frozen to death on a Greyhound bus in 04.

    I hear ya Brickman, WHats worse are the people that dont even bother cleaning the snow off thir back lights, bumpers or back windows. Makes it harder to see their lights or when they are turning. Right now I am at home and done for the week due to a Dr's appt tomorrow. Come Monday back into the truck and haul more grain. One good thing is that my boss doesnt push us. If we dont feel comfortable on the roads then he wont force us to go. Makes it easier to work for them.

    Yeah, I just came back from a potty break... Anyway, ran into a driver who's truck just got towed in.

    Apparantly he is an excellent driver, one of the best from what he told me. So it is thru no fault of his that his rig jack knifed and plowed into the median. A stupid 4 wheeler in an SUV who wasn't smart enough to stay off the road caused it.

    Now he is screwed, because, the same thing happened just a couple weeks ago and he got raked over the coals by his company who was very unappreciative of his dedication and the fact that he is not one of those lazy cry babies who pull over as soon as a few snow flakes begin to fall.

    Now, I realize I am a newbie and this is my first winter so perhaps I am a bit more cautious and have a lot to learn, however, I do think that this is more than just a few snow flakes falling... But, what do I know, after all this is his second winter and only my first.
