X 1 Heavy mentioned the Amesbury Truckstop at exit 54 on the 495 just North of Boston. They sure had everything at this location. I spent many hrs at this Truckstop drinking and chatting with the Ladies. During those yrs. was the closest I came to becoming a useless drunk ok? I'll never forget the hangovers, Although as X 1 Heavy stated, the place burned down a no of yrs ago, I sometimes still get the hung over feelin when I drive past the exit. Yeah, good memories, not all of them, some I prefer to not remember..True.
Technically it was known as MASS 10 Truck Stop because it was just off exit 10 of the Massachusetts Turnpike at US 20 and MA Rt 12 There is a Burger King and a Taco Bell there now.
Although I prefer other search engines, that video turned up on Google/YouTube. That same channel, Osborn Tramain has a lot of old stuff worth looking at. https://www.youtube.com/c/OsbornTramain/videos Here is another one truck related.
I just found these 2 articles that are pretty cool. I sure love the nostalgia and reading about times gone by. Too bad things couldn’t be this simple today. https://www.hotcars.com/20-pics-of-abandoned-truck-stops-from-days-long-past/amp/ https://www.hotcars.com/stunning-photos-of-abandoned-truck-stops/amp/
Anyone remember Norma's in Gaffney, SC? It was like the old song, Alice's Restaurant. "You can get about anything you want, at the Gaffney Truckstop/Restaurant"...lol Gene Tracy used to make jokes about it on his tapes. Like the Granny's w------e house joke. Or the old Skelly Truck stops that were known as Skully Truck stops. Remember the Bingo Stops that had cheap fuel? Back in the day, the truck stops in south Louisiana would pressure wash your windshields and radiator during "love bug" season with a fill up. At some of the old '76 stops, the fuel attendants would fill and park your truck while you were eating if you asked them to. I have had them call on the intercom for me to move my truck while eating if I didn't ask them to park for me. I had to really know the fuel attendant to consent to parking. How about the old 76 fuel stop at Corbin, Ky, on the old road? They had fuel pumps, a sometimes open garage, and an old restaurant that actually had good food, and usually some nice looking waitresses. Used to stop there all the time when I ran Michigan a lot. Anyone remember "Misty Blue" from there?
