How did the engine brake work?
Did you find yourself using the brakes more - in these 18’s I have I barely ever use the physical brakes.Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -
Engine brake worked ok. The DD series engine brake worked ok, but Cummins would whip its ###. But as far as engine brake performance, I'd say it worked good if you would manually downshift it. It's been a long time since I ran that truck, so memory is a little fuzzy.

Cool pics. I've been on quite a few lease roads like that just a few feet from the edge. West Virginia was good for thatsinglescrewshaker, Crude Truckin' and JoeyJunk Thank this.

It's my understanding that the Eaton 13 and 18 speed automatic. Are the same (internal parts wise) as manual with the exception of the X Y shifter. I knew a few shops the swap them back to manual from automatic in a few hours of shop time. Don't quote me on this but both mechanics said it's relatively easy.

Kinda curious about full automatics . In a standard or auto shift if engine dies it still turns over and keeps power steering pump going till you hit nuetral . Does a automatic go straight to nuetral?

It will, yes. Allison's have a torque converter like a regular car doesMagoo1968 Thanks this.

my experience with taking an automatic off road was it would spin out on dry dirt , not only that but drains your air tanks down trying to find traction. and if you spin to much then you brake locks up and now you have to wait for your compressor. this was a 2018 pete 579 with a cummins and 12 speed . this was with the interaxle locked in and traction control off. but really just a highway truck that has no place off road. if it was raining or snowing or mud. that truck wouldnt of made it 12 feet... just something to think about.
Dave1837 and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
