Anybody here who drives bare feet?

I’ll disagree with this. My 10 years driving a T800 my footwear went between the seat and the door, same place it goes now. Work boots went in the side box. I’d get out, then slip on the work boots while loading, unloading, tarping, whatever I was doing. Then they’d go back in the side box, slip on my shoes, shoes off at the door, and drive the truck.

 

Sneakers get blown off with the air gun on the bottom step and placed on a towel next to the seat

I'm not as OCD as the wife when she used to ride w me (Q-tip the vents etc.) and it has taken me over a dozen years to "kinda" get over others habits and the varying levels of cleanliness in a slip seat operation but like our boss said when someone complained
(" do what you need to do..you're being paid!")

As far as dressing for success etc, I've always taken the approach that you only get one chance at a first impression.
And yes we used to dress up as drivers. At CF in the 1970s the senior drivers wore ties w white dress shirts. Kinda like airline passengers did back then but we've seen a bit of decline in the appearance department there too..lol

 

Here’s the inside of my last company truck when I got out of it. Also file this one in the “you can’t have a dog and have a clean truck” category also, because my mutt was with me for every mile I put on this truck.

 

Technically it’s not illegal to drive without shoes in any state.
But, if someone say crosses median hits you and you flip flop (intended) down the side of a hill/mountain/or just roll over.
Who knows where the shoes will be.
Then you’ll be barefootin’ it outside to get out of that truck that’s lying on its side.

But remember, companies can have a policy against it too, while you can’t get ticketed for violating a company policy, the company can fire you for it.

Exactly. When I worked at Estes doing P&D they had a uniform policy but my barn didn't enforce crap lol. I wore black dickies work pants, black tennis shoes, a plain dark blue shirt and a tan sun hat. That was professional enough for me when I was going to about 20 customers a day and practical enough that I didn't feel uncomfortable moving around and securing freight all day long.

As I said in my post - It's absolutely stupid to think that it matters what you wear inside of your truck as an OTR reefer or drive van driver, where you are alone by yourself 99% of the time. I put on tennis shoes when I get out of the truck for safety, and winter boots when the weather calls for it. That's good enough for me.

 

I see nobody wants to respond to my overweight comment and my observation that the foreign born truckers who dress more casually are 90% of the time at a healthy weight for their heights, unlike the vast majority of American born drivers.

Lots of paragraphs being written to respond to me, nobody wants to talk about the elephant in the room (pun VERY much intended) of (many of) those who criticize others for their attire as being very fat and very overweight themselves.

 

Ok, don't be throwing the racist term at me, thats why that particular part is being ignored. You spend much time in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas? Not on 70, 40, 44, or 10. Out on the little 2 lanes. The average Hispanic fella who don't speak much English hauling into the feedlots is well overweight too. Course their wives send enough food along with them to feed an army. They also dress like cowboys usually, jeans, boots, pearl snap shirts. I've smelled Indian ethnic food, if I was eating nothing but that I'd be worried about the wind blowing me away too. I can't explain Eastern Europeans, they just simply dont eat as much i guess. Somalis are used to missing multiple meals in a row, they don't sit and eat everything in sight all day and then stop to get more.

 

I usually take my shoes off. I don't like tracking truck stop grease all over my cab.

Oddly enough shoes are the only thing I have on when driving
