Is Schneider a good starter company?

Schneider sucks unless you are trying to get tanker experience with a fresh CDL. Otherwise I’d start in LTL or flatbed. In tanker if you mess up you’ll simply get demoted to van unless it is serious. No teaming. You can start on hazmat loads whenever you want. Great home time Really chill. Pays garbage though.

 

Schneider is also really respectful if you act like a professional towards the staff. Plenty of second chances during training and neither my OTR nor Ecolab dbl’s were bad or rude in any way. Dispatch takes weekends off so be extra detail oriented from noon Friday till Monday morning.

 

I’ve been here almost 6 months and my experience has been good. The older trucks in the fleet do have more maintenance issues, so you may find yourself in the shop initially getting things fixed if you get one of those. Miles greatly depends on the account and they have quite a variety of options. I’m making 47cpm including the fairly easy to get performance bonus.

I average about 2500-2600miles a week doing Costco dedicated. Last week was about 2600 with a gross of $1,242. I’ll be about the same this week as well, and if I remember correctly, I believe there’s a small 6-mo pay raise that will be coming up next month. A lot of people say Schneider is at the low end of pay, but $1,200 seems decent to me for a less than 6 month rookie at a mega.

 

They have good trainings for tankers, otr gets 6 days off per month
