I want to apologize to a member, Wischris, they asked advice on a new truck purchase that had problems, and I rattled off a crummy response. Naturally, I'm frustrated with what's become of my profession,( and took it out on Wischris) , it seems this site has morphed into more of a "kindergarten" for new drivers, than needing advice from a dinosaur like me. I see so many other frustrations, HOS, STILL getting drug testing questions, driver facing cameras, equipment today requiring little more than a pulse,,it's not the same job. I've been here almost 10 years, and have seen a marked decline in who is driving our nations trucks today. It scares me with every "MJD" posting.
Now, would I spend TEN TIMES what I bought my 1st truck for,,of course not, and why anyone would feed into that foolishness, is beyond me,,,but, it's not my call. My frustration with Wischris was, they, and others like them, spend an unGodly amount of money, to get something that doesn't work? It's unacceptable, I mean, isn't that why you bought something new, to eliminate that ,,for a while? I'm nearing 10,000 posts, so some of my advice has merit, trucking, as different as it is today, is still in my blood, and stay here only to keep up with how out of whack it's become,,,not unlike the classic car hobby, another frustration I live with. Peace all, really, if my experience has taught me anything, it's going to get a lot worse, and I only hope you folks that buy 1/4 million dollar purchases know what you're doing.

Greetings,,; After reading your Post reply I totally agree with your statement. Trucking has become a trap, a trap for humans that Do Not understand the Bussiness and Do Not understand the numbers. (this "Hat" does'nt Fit everyone).
Young drivers see those weekly settlements and they feel their Lives are going to change, little they know that it is Not like they think and discover that they remain with a chain locked to their ankles and most of the time they end up Bankrupted. I started driving Stateside USA in 1995 first as a Co. Driver and by 1997 I was Owner Oper. with One of the biggest Co. in the US. We used to pay 0.92 cents a Gallon of Diesel in GA, and 1.10 plus in other States. By 2003 I realized that the numbers were Not good and the Battle was Uphill all the time. The "Big company" and it's Sub's went "Belly Up", I went back to Co. Driver. The $$numbers went South, the Truck Units multiplied with out Control, Regulations and Derregulations went haywire..,more and more Companies went Bankrupted. New Companies appeared....Things were troubling, Thousands of Drivers came into the bussiness with "phoney" CDL's, lots of them got caught, lots of them fell thru the cracks....Trucks numbers kept rising.....the numbers$$ were never right. Today..(since 2020)!! I'm RETIRED....RV'ing thru out the GREATEST NATION that ever existed, USA.!
I give you "words of Wisdom", if you decide to drive an 18wheeler, STUDY THE BUSSINESS, STUDY THE NUMBERS, STUDY THE PRESENT TIMES, put Family in the Number #1 position, Health in #2 and $$$ in #3. and REMEMBER....Technology is and going to BE A GAME CHANGER...! It already is!!!!Last edited: Mar 22, 2022

Ever been in one of those dispensaries? The "edibles" are by far, their biggest sellers. They literally have shelves of different products, and brings in the most revenue.
Thanks all, especially the staff for not giving me the heave-ho( I know, I'm on thin ice)I'm sure Wischris is still pixxed off at me, and rightly so, I was out of line, but my message there was, obviously, the business they are in demands a new truck. Probably frustrated enough, they don't need me rubbing their face in it. A new truck that already has problems is not a good sign, I must add and their only recourse is to buy a new truck and accept the fact it doesn't work. It's common in our society today to have inferior assembly, but one would think, spending that amount of money should INSURE it won't fail,,FOR YEARS. You don't buy a Lear jet, and the right wheel doesn't retract, why would a truck be any different? Years ago, I drove a 2 year old Mack, in the 3 years I drove it, I never remember going to a dealer, fact is, I didn't even know where it was,,my point, you bought a truck, it was ready for abuse, right off the lot. That was then, this is now, good luck with it. -
The thing you’re overlooking is the truck didn’t have problems. It’s was only a programming issue. These aren’t the trucks you’re familiar with and trying to compare them to those old trucks is foolish. There are a handful of computers that run everything. The wiring behind the dash is all multiplexed and there are hardly any wires compared to the trucks you picture in your head. On my last truck there was an update for the cab computer. They flashed it and I left. It was summer time and a few days later when it was raining I noticed my lights turned on when I turned the wipers on. No biggie, swung back thru Peterbilt and had them change it. Sometimes computer updates will default to factory settings, sometimes people forget things and they fall thru the cracks. Either way it wasn’t that big of deal, his new truck wasn’t inoperable.

We all have our opinions and when you donate your life to a industry you become very passionate to help keep it thriving
.. I question the futher of this industry myself when you.read some of the things posted on this forum..
But it's a completely different type of human that roams the parking lots of truck stops then it was when some of us started .. I just do my best to avoid it .. Even then I tend to call it as I see too it right wrong or indifferent..
I think alot of us see & understand what your saying..
That's big of you for the Apology.. but I need to remind you about the honest reply you just gave somebody a few days ago in reguards to the smart ### ..instructions I offered him.
