Is he leasing a truck and LEASED ON to a company?

Get him to show you an actual breakdown and post it - with a few more details, like miles (all miles) , freight, days worked, etc . . .

and then I could at least form an opinion that is worth 3 cents.

What could you do, with your imagination?!

The better question is, what could you do running the miles as you are now - but having the expenses of owning/leasing the truck.

You need to measure those expenses in the only practical way possible - while you are a company driver.
Track every expense and income and tax in a spreadsheet, just as you would have to once you go indy.
Do that for two years as a company driver and see if you would come out better or worse.

I’ve yet to hear a successful story from a 35 year old driver that involves the words “Leased truck , Lease Purchase”.

The man is full of great information. Take what he has said with a grain of salt or learn a little bit about how the business works. He wasted a lot of time helping people out so you are not special.
