Out of all the things I need a top bunk is high on my priority list. But they all seem to be about 650 or better.

Have any of you made a good home made one that you trust?

Never, but if you’re dealing with single wall cab steel then I would use appropriate fasteners from the outside in. Stainless, and/ or pre painted Tapcons drilled into angle iron inside the cab acting as a ledge. Then run cross square tube metal to support painted 3/4” plywood

Vanderhaag might be a good place to find used wrecked.

I put one in my last Classic from a Century, for $100 at the junkyard. I had to take it out myself. Dealer wanted $1,000 for just the bunk. Most junkyards were too expensive. It pretty much bolted in, had to take interior panel off and install the 2 brackets or ears for it to sit on. The rear hinge sits on the existing corners, bolts in. I didn’t install the latches for holding it in an up position. That was a bit complicated. Just left it down all the time. I need a shelf now, in my current Classic, not so much a bunk. My neighbors got a parts Truck now. I’m debating on getting the bunk from it. Whatever you do, you probably have existing holes already for a factory bunk. Once you take the panels off you’ll see them, along with the steel or aluminum 1.5”x1.5” framing for the bunk. Getting a big piece of plywood in, might have to take passengers seat out. I’d like to get an old dairy shelf rack, or a plant rack. The type you see behind grocery stores or Home Depot. Starting with that, and reinforce as needed.
