If things get like they were with riots nation wide and civil unrest everywhere, I’ll carry and won’t give a rip who thinks what. I’ve been in the middle of that crap and I’ve been in two situations since I’ve been OTR where I really needed to have a concealed carry. Once for waving at a guy, Who thought I was flipping him off. Stopped in the middle of the road and came up my truck with a knife. Luckily it didn’t escalate from there.
Right now I don’t carry, but honestly, who’s gonna know? What reason are you gonna give DOT to strip search your entire cab? They have to have a reason, don’t give them any. We live in wild times, And from everything I’m seeing, nothings gonna get better anytime soon.
If you don’t protect yourself, nobody else will.Another Canadian driver, JolliRoger and tscottme Thank this. -
If you do decide to carry a gun, against your company policy and sometimes against local laws, nobody should ever know about it, not one person, not even that one person you trust above anyone else. A literal NOBODY. You should also get familiar with the strictest laws so you don't have to violate any more of them than necessary. For example, possessing hollow-point ammo in NJ is a crime. The strictest states prohibit firearms that can carry over 10 rounds. Different states define different parts of the truck differently in case you don't want to violate their laws. Some states the sidebox of the truck is considered in the driving compartment and other states it is not. TN, for example, defines the gun being loaded as the ammo magazine having bullets in the magazine, even if the magazine is not inserted in the gun. Some states if the gun is locked in one box and he ammo is locked in a different box, but both locked boxes are in the trunk of a car, for example, you do not have the gun and ammo in seperate compartments. If you carry, do your research and then decide what risks you will reasonably take. You don't need to prepare to defend the Alamo from the Mexican army. The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislatve Affairs or ILA is one good source of gun regs. Gun Owners of America is a good source of info.
You will need to buy a gun in your home state. You can buy online but they will only ship to a gun store in your state and you will need to pay a fee (maybe $50) to the local gun shop to accept and deliver the gun at the counter. You will fill-out the standard background check as if you bought in the store. You will pay about a$20 fee for the background check. Don't lie about anything on that background check form or you will get in trouble. The background check takes a few minutes to fill out and few minutes to get an answer. You cannot fill-out the form before you are ready to buy the gun. I don't think any state has a waiting period, maybe CA.MAMservices and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Military bases WILL NOT hold your gun for you when you enter the base. That was true, I assume, in the 1970s and maybe later. Military bases are not a place to bring a gun. If you are being dispatched to a military base, drive to a gun store and ship the gun back to your gun store back home. It might cost you $100, but it beats going to jail. Nobody giving you advice is going to bail you out of jail or pay for a lawyer. Don't follow anyone's advice until you have verified it agrees with the laws in the location you are asking about.Nostalgic, buddyd157, TooTiredToTalk and 3 others Thank this.

Political parties, both of them, are not in the solving problem business. Every problem is an opportunity to rasie money to CAMPAIGN to fix the problem. Activists can NEVER be satisfied by any law and voters won't pay attention until the week before an election. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, not just watching the Kardashians and sports until the week before the Presidential election.MAMservices and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

A tactical flashlight is very handy
I carry a nitecore P10-i
It’s 1800 lumens on high .
And has a strobe function
After dark it will blind someone .
And it’s always in my pocket .
The other pocket has a spiderco folding knife . Always.
if I’m in a bad area , I also carry a glock .380
Drops right into my pocket .
to find the bad high crime areas . Just look at the election map and any area that voted solid for Hillary or Biden will be an area you want to to be careful in . Or you could look at the fbi crime map. It’s the exact same map.Nostalgic, Chieftains, teams567 and 1 other person Thank this. -
