Unless it’s a real light product or someone has a heavy truck 25 ton is close to legal on 5 axles. But without knowing the commodity it’s hard to assume 25 ton.Another Canadian driver, Chieftains and IH9300SBA Thank this.

Hanceville, AL (really close to Tanner) to Meadville, PA = 767 miles
25 tons per load = @100/ton = $2,500 per load? Or $3.26 per mile?
My rate to haul that as a van load would be $2,354.72, $3.07 per mile...that's about 6% less. Does this sound about right?Last edited: Oct 12, 2022

Trying another one:
Memphis, TN to Mead, MO = 331 miles
55/ton @ 25 tons per load = $1,375, $4.15 per mile

From my experience I’d say that’s not unreasonable. I could haul 29 ton in my triple axle in the Midwest and that was usually $4 or a little more per loaded mile.
Your second example, depending on how many trucks are in line, etc, that 331 mile load could turn into an all day ordeal. Plus with a hopper you tend to deadhead a little more so the rates reflect that too.Another Canadian driver and IH9300SBA Thank this. -
You're right... Normally, the only way I'd quote anything under $1,250 is if the pick/drop are both FCFS 24/7 and under 400 miles. If the load is on my trailer overnight, $1,250 is a minimum daily rate. My minimum hourly rate is $110. For example, if it's a local move...that's $660 minimum. I require 2 hours for operational activities, I'm required to give both the shipper and receiver 2 hours of my time, so 6 hours is an absolute minimum amount of time required for one load. You'd have to charge a stupid per mile to charge by mileage, so hourly it is! I calculate speed as 50mph to calculate the number of hour spent driving.Another Canadian driver, Chieftains and IH9300SBA Thank this.

The one I’m using with 84 tall 43’ long 102 wide is 30,000 empty.
Most of that guys stuff is cheap.
But he shows prices, most don’t, they want you to tell them what you’ll do it for, trying to keep what they get a secret, so you can under bid what they got it.
but let’s try the first load.

If I were quoting that lane, it'd be $1,242.49 on 384 miles or $3.24 per mile. That is, IF I can pick/drop fcfs.
