Whoa whoa whoa. Hold up a minute here. I thought the problem was the brokers are taking way too much off the load, forcing the owner operators to haul for way less money. So you mean to tell me that if it was shipper direct that the truckers would undercut each other just to get the load, thus driving the rate down to what would basically be the market rate due to the number of available trucks to haul the load?singlescrewshaker, D.Tibbitt, DUNE-T and 7 others Thank this.

Thanks. I didnt know how to word it proper. This applys to most all jobs now though sadly. When you come from absolutely nothing even what we consider poor here will be rich. Thus working for less than what the people normally would.singlescrewshaker and Brettj3876 Thank this.

Stopping the pendulum swings has to be the most ignorant statement made on this forum. You bash Joe for describing his "utopia" and then declare that your utopia preserves rights and such... Which is it, Sir? His utopia isn't good enough because it doesn't match yours? Or... Is he only allowed to consider your utopia? Where is your vision? How should things be? You are very opinionated to tell everyone else that their vision is garbage. So, where is your vision? It's one thing to just shoot down the ideas of another person, but at some point you have to throw out your own or be labeled a cynic.
I think there's a lot of intelligent people on this forum but FFS, can we stop trying to prop up our opinions at the expense of bashing someone else's opinion?

Of course, nobody can measure the satisfaction of each individual person and then come up with some concrete figure or outcome, but there are meaningful indicators such as unemployment, poverty level, wealth distribution, indebtment, level of education, crime rate, health, and reproduction.
These are things that today's science is able to analyze, compare and make viable determinations as to where society is with its overall aggregate condition. And measuring it is important for the purpose of preserving internal peace and order. Then there are methods to use to reverse an adversary trend. And whether you like it or not, these things have been ongoing since the 1930s until today. I don't see anybody walking hungry or destitute, neither here nor in Europe.
It is all too easy and very fashionable and most of all fun to assume a libertarian stance and receive acclamation of the floor. Free markets are just as much a theory as Marxism is a theory. Neither can be fully implemented. Neither ever was in existence. They are two polarized poles, except that the more you approach one of them, the more the other one is drawing you back away - that manifests itself in social trends and political reactions. Just like brokers called owner-operators scumbags as recently as a year ago, today owner-operators are calling them scam bugs. We don't want these critical moments, we want smoother and less painful transitions.
The free market - if ever existed at all - is a thing of the past. It morphed into the market that we see today. Already regulated and controlled. And therefore, I don't see why I should forfeit an opportunity to improve already existing, but no longer adequate regulations. An example of how things can be improved to suit an owner-operator better is the latest - already 2 years- HOS modification of September 2020 - enabling more flexibility that automatically translated to productivity and more income.RJM1953 Thanks this. -
Actually the increased productivity that the government gave you with more flexible hours increased available capacity effectively being another one of those things that helps keeps rates down. When HOS were more strict with the 34 hour reset being more difficult to attain Friday loads were gold mines because the way customers scheduled most of them for a Monday delivery didn't allow for a legal 34 hour reset. Now they are cheap loads to get people hometime. I rarely see Friday loads paying with a #### since they made that change.singlescrewshaker and Midwest Trucker Thank this.
