I asked the carrier im leased to about this subject and they said the would simply move some numbers and paperwork around and backdoor it all thru theyre brokerage division .
Siinman, Oxbow and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
Have to be careful, i may be wrong, but the way i read it, that’d be double brokering.
They’re trying to make owner ops a thing of the past, meaning everyone have to get their numbers, changing them into a motor carrier. -
Unlike the Cali ABC test; at least, this one considers the investment in equipment as one of the considered factors.
I can't understand how Cali [and NJ is trying too] can consider a person that invested thousands in his power unit, lives in the state, pays taxes to the state and pays for fuel, tolls and maintenance in the state; all postives for the state economy, as an employee.....
The fact that John the port driver owns the truck leased to XYZ megacarrier will actually be considered without years of additional court hearingsSiinman Thanks this. -
this isn't going to change much other than to put those in the 1099 world on edge and eliminate a lot of the abusive and pos crap carriers/fleet owners.
They can't eliminate the contractor, this would have too much of a ripple effect for many industries, not just this one. IT and military contractors will take a huge hit and so would some health care companies who depend on the contractor/contractee relationship - like visiting elderly care workers. -
Because if you receive a paycheck they can get your tax money every week rather than waiting for it.
It’s only about filling their coffers, nothing less and nothing more.Siinman Thanks this.
