Wait a minute there dude, you are not reading what some of us are saying, IT IS ILLEGAL.

It isn't a case where there are too many thin skin people or some fragile egos, IT IS ILLEGAL - PERIOD!!!

    WHY?

BECAUSE YOU CAN'T WITHHOLD EARNED WAGES AND YOU CAN'T FORCE AN EMPLOYEE TO PAY FOR THINGS THAT ARE NOT THEIR FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

This is established in the labor laws, in court cases and common practices in all industries.

If the OP was a contractor, that is a different case.
See what the other part you are missing and accusing some of is this idea that we don't want to see people succeed, we do. We don't want some cheap POS fleet owner take advantage of drivers, we want to see those low lives gone but even entertaining this kind of crap gives them power over the driver instead of the other way around.

There are a hundred ways to succeed in trucking. Since drivers work alone and since trucking attracts those willing to work alone each driver is pretty certain their way of success is the only way for anyone to succeed. People also often only learn the hard way. Everyone has their pet theory and some people think their pet theory never failed it just wasn't implemented properly. For some people the only proof possible that a pet theory can't work is when THEY implement their theory and then it fails. However, as often as not, they just decide some outside actor prevented their theory from working. Some of the new drivers interpret anything less helpful than every veteran doing everything to insure the newbie succeeds as the whole industry is working to prevent newbie success. Every newbie that comes to this board gets help. @Chinatown helps with company names and minimum requirements, etc. Others help with details in the industry are like. Others help with specifics of owning and operating a truck or dealing with medical exams and dispatchers. EVERY newbie gets help. That help may be a warning that jumping off the cliff with CR England isn't going to fix their life. The warning may be that leasing a truck before you have seen the inside of a truck is guaranteed to make you poor and unhappy. Lots of newbies and some experienced drivers who made a success of random job hopping will support the newbies who are misinterpreting their own desperation for a job with the job from CR England being a good choice. Some people only want the help that tells them to do what they wanted to do. Some people want to do the wrong things. No newbie needs the approval of even one veteran of the board to do what they were going to do and some things should not get approval. Nobody has a right to be told they are a good boy while they are doing the wrong thing.

    Good advice here

just use Google maps to find trucking companies near you , call them and get in your car and go knock on some doors, bring a copy of your medical card and a copy of your MVR , and just drive around and talk to the manager or recruiter .

Those two don't jive. Good places to work don't need pushy recruiters, and vice versa. Where did you read the reviews? Google? Those are way too easy to manipulate.

I recently responded in a thread here where a company owner showed up and tried lying to everyone out in the open about the driver and touted his company's google reviews to prove it was a good company. A quick look behind the reviews on their face, however, showed they were all most likely from office staff, family, and friends back in their home county (Lithuania) and not from actual drivers.

And 50% of benefits premiums? Our drivers say the benefits here cost too much (everyone says that everywhere, its an insurance industry problem not a trucking problem), yet we cover 80% of the premium so what do you think the premium coming out of your check will actually be?

Bottom line should be do your research. Look up the company's snapshot from the FMCSA, see reviews from carriers CarrierSource | Find the Best Carriers to Move Your Freight, Look at this site and any other reviews ESPECIALLY where the company is located. If that company is overseas and they are requiring an escrow, DO NOT DO IT. It's a Ponzi scheme aka "Chameleon Carriers."

@rch10007 I would say it seems pretty significant considering...maybe you wanted to leave said company who charged you the original escrow because you started noticing red flags -- such as your fuel card being shut off, waiting DAYS for loads, or the pay dates from said company starts paying you later and later. Now what? No paycheck and no escrow money. Back to square one.

Do your research. Don't get ###### over.

The company is based out of Illinois and has been in business for 17 years. Satisfactory rating and insurance is up to date. Runs approx 80 rigs and has their own trailers. They are very organized and definitely protecting themselves. They have sent documents to sign and have a 75 page manual to carefully read and sign.

As I stated before, not too worried about the 1k escrow, but the incident / accident up to 2k if at fault worries me. Its for every incident or accident. Its not a deductible yearly thing. Also, they want a w4 filled out for both illinois and home state. Is that common? That is paying for two different income taxes?

I wanted to tell you thank you. You seemed to have understood what situation I am in. I also wanted to thank you because you got a little heat for suggesting that it was normal. It obviously is normal for those that have a hard time to get a gig elsewhere due to record or absence from behind the wheel in awhile.
I have been reading comments on other posts as well and it saddens me to see others calling fellow truck drivers "idiots" or "stupid" for trying to make a living the best way they can, even if they feel they need to sign their life away to the devil. Believe me, this is not something I want to do, but when you have a mortgage and time is of essence, some people just do not feel they have any other choice but to take a crap deal. Sometimes we have to leave it in God's hands and hope for the best. My family having food and shelter comes first and I am sure others on this forum have had to contemplate the same scenerio. It is a shame that plenty companies take advantage of others knowing their situation, that is life I guess. The government sure does it to us and people that come into our country and able to run a successful business follows the governments lead by taking advantage. Ultimately, it is the drivers decision to accept or not accept the contract. I appreciate all the suggestion and comments.
