Refining is nowhere near pre-pandemic levels on the diesel side, and is why ULSD prices are as high as they are. There are a half dozen refineries being switched to sustainable fuel production that have not yet restarted after COVID. And the loss of half the East Coast refineries over the last couple decades isn't helping matters.
And a very anti-oil push by the current political climate largely ensures no one will attempt to open a new refinery, the investment money won't happen. -

I was going off the eia data.
Yes, total refinery capacity is lower, but production hasn't varied by much.
I would also argue that the over production circa 2015-2018 when inventories were well over the 5 year moving average has a greater impact on the closing of refineries than the current administration. Well that and a couple of them are out of date and forecasted to be at risk for constant flooding -

Just in time for the pre-winter filling of oil heating tanks of people who still use them primarily in the northeast. Hearing reports of people paying over $1300 bucks to fill their tanks with heating oil that will sustain them for the winter. This has all the earmarks of a designed crisis for the purpose of soaking up more dollars from the American consumer.
Bean Jr. and gentleroger Thank this. -
Manufactured crisis??? OMG, say it ain't so!
