Marten Transport.

I see job ads for Marten doing Walmart dedicated.

Based on your extensive experience with them--do you think that would be a good gig?

Depends on which DC. Marten has dedicated Walmart accounts at the following facilities:
Tomah,Wisconsin
Clarksville,Arkansas
New Albany,Mississippi
Shelbyville,Tennessee(frozen/refrigerated only)
Monroe,Georgia
Wintersville,Ohio

In addition the company also has a Coca Cola dedicated accounts in the following areas:
Indianapolis,Indiana
Dallas,Texas
Grand Rapids,Michigan
Kansas City,Kansas
Jurupa Valley,California (Inland Empire region)

Me personally,my preference is the Walmart accounts out of Tomah & Clarksville-I’ve always made a killing at both locations.

Lastly, the company also has intermodal work depending on the location

Day cabs are T-680s and Cascadias,used on dedicated accounts and intermodal.
The company has transitioned an all automated manual fleet.
Hometime is variable-I usually stay out 3 weeks or more to get 5 days off. It’s supposed to be for every week you stay out you get a day off, but the company has changed its rules so many times in recent years. You can take the truck home with you, or park it at a terminal, or at one of the holding/storage yards that we use. Company policy is that the truck has to be parked in a secure, gated area(your home counts).Pay wise, they use a sliding scale. When I started with Marten, they start me at $.45 a mile, but in the years since, that has increased.

 

I very seriously considered Marten before I went with Magnum.

Are there any requirements for how far you can live from those cities? I'd be interested to learn more about that dedicated account out of Kansas City. I live about 2.5 hours west of there along I-70. I've been looking for more of a regional gig that's decent. I don't want to spend the rest of my career as OTR if I can help it.

 

With me being OTR I haven’t asked that. My home terminal is in Carlisle,Pennsylvania and that’s a 400 mile drive from my home in Massachusetts-I park my truck at a holding yard 1 1/2 hours from my home.

 

It’s amazing how with most companies if you follow those three rules the money and respect flows.

But regarding Marten, I’ve heard good things from drivers. From drivers that weren’t recruiting either, which means a lot. I would have taken an offer from Marten myself but as best I could tell the load mile average was lower than I wanted and I would have been mostly in states I didn’t want to stay in. I prefer es the longer runs and stretching my legs over all 48.
