I’ve never worked for a large company, but the 100 truck or so fleet I worked for used to say that 90% of speeding tickets drivers got were in 45/55 mph zones where a governor doesn’t help anyway, it was just a large insurance saving to set the trucks to 70 instead of keeping them at 75

Savings on insurance isn't true as most big carriers are self insured. It's done to save money and safety.

Depends on my mood. And the urgency of the reciever dead line. I hardly ever rush to the shipper.

Well, the feds are trying to mandate speed limiters on ALL trucks across the nation. Part of the reason for this is the reckless drivers. Speeding is a factor. You know how many drivers I see running up the passing lane at 90 tailgating 4 wheelers? Way too many. That four wheeler feels intimidated and nervous. When these kind of regulatory plans are put to the public, blame yourself when the public wants them to go into effect. I'm not regulated, but I rarely exceed the speed limit and I usually go slower. I love to have that extra speed when I need it for sticky situations. If the feds have their way, I'll lose that ability thanks to the reckless drivers. It's not just wrecks that affect public opinion about truckers and all of us share the rep of the few bad apples.

Its funny I don't see this. Most times its the 4 wheeler trying to push thier luck racing the truck!
The times that I do see a truck doing something stupid like trying to push a 4 wheeler around by tailgating the 4 wheeler is doing a ridiculously low speed. The few times I have had conversations with those car drivers they all insisted the truck was doing a hundred miles an hour and could not understand that thier traveling at 45 in a 70 zone was the actual problem.

The issues I see trucks causing will not be solved by slowing them down. In fact this will only succeed in making them worse for everyone!

self insured megas only make up a small percent of the overall market in the big picture.

saying it’s for safety is a complete joke

I like air flow and knowing my truck will not freeze up in extreme cold
