Walmart doesn't allow talking on the phone while driving, and they can check your phone logs at any time to verify that you're not using it for more than 10 minutes per call or an hour during your shift total. Also I've heard you have to start out working weekends for years. I have existing community service commitments on weekends I need to keep showing up for.
I just put in an application and said yes to a JB Hunt run after posting this, despite my reservations about working for such a large company and what that'll mean for possibly being treated like a person instead of a number.
Thank you!
It means the company I currently work for tells me I'm a #### good driver, but works me to death on 16-18 hour days, and yet somehow I still only make the guaranteed minimum pay each week because I spend so much time sitting around waiting for dispatch or waiting for customers without pay that i dont even earn the minimum — and now they're taking away our minimum pay guarantee with only one week's notice. All the while, the people in the office keep referring to me by the wrong gender, no matter how politely I have corrected them or how many times.
Life is hard enough with state legislators making it illegal for me to use the bathrooms in public, banning my access to medical care, and terrorizing me because they dislike the body God gave me. I don't need to be bullied by my employer, too. I'm looking for a place that will treat me with the dignity and respect that I, as a whole human being, deserve.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
Well....the Walmart stuff isn't quite accurate. My friend works for Walmart and he talks to me while driving all the time, pretty much daily for an unlimited amount of time. They do check phone records if you get in an accident, trigger an event in which the camera records, or get a bad ticket, something like speeding in a school zone. Speaking of which, I think he told me it's their policy to not be on the phone while traveling through a school zone. On a side note, being involved with the community is pretty cool! Here's to hoping JB Hunt works out!IH9300SBA and ConsciousTrucker Thank this.
