Excellent fishing, or at least there used to be, when The Blue's run.

 

Some but much more in Jacksonville or S Florida

 

At the risk of insulting your intelligence, before going to all the trouble & expense of moving to Florida for intermodal duty....I would suggest you ask drivers who are currently working that port (or railyard) whether their experience(s) there...are generally good, or bad:

• Depending on whether a railyard (or port) has its "act together"....the process of in-gating and/or out-gating can make you--or break you; thus--how bad are the lines of trucks at in-gating/out-gating, usually? Do things there coming in and out generally go smoothly--or is it almost constant constipation, instead?
• How much time/hassle is generally involved for a driver to find a working chassis, that's in reasonably good shape? How much time generally does it take for a chassis to then get loaded? Are most chassis instead preloaded already, when you get there? Is a container generally loaded correctly onto the chassis--or do they routinely need another crane to adjust it (which can of course waste A LOT of time)?

In case your intended port or railyard later turns out to be/turns into a circus...have a plan "B" in mind there, as a backup.

I'm a native. I remember seeing the old bumper stickers 'working in Florida is a tropical depression!' and thinking it was a joke. Now that I've become middle age and have a family to support, it's not funny any more.

There are still a few good jobs, but the vast majority are paying peanuts, which attracts monkeys.

Anything south of ~ I-4 corridor and you better se habla Espanol, amigo. Even some jobs as far up as Tampa here where I live are getting like that.

 

Nothing beats the Keys. I used to work for an Arab Sheik circa 1997. He had quite a mansion on Pine Tree Drive (Miami Beach) where he parked his boats. One weekend he entered us in a fishing tournament in North Key Largo and we cruised on down there. He hired a fishing guide that was based down in Marathon. We caught about 12 dolphins, a 45-pound bull, snappers, groupers. It was amazing. I won $1500 for catching the biggest kingfish in the tourney (24 pounds). You haven't fished until you run into a school of dolphins 20 miles out at sea. There is nothing like it. You pull them in hand-over-fist.
