The only mistake that CAN happen is that you don't learn from it.

Today went smooth, mostly highway driving. Still need to get me a trucker gps and do better planning. I appreciate all of the great advice. I’m just happy to still be driving, yesterday I really thought it was over for me the way my trucking was leaning. Luckily no one was hurt and nothing was damaged.

I feel so stupid and now that it is over I see so many options that I had to get out of the situation but I failed. 9AA3EBEF-5FB7-4189-8CE1-D812C675B03A.png

The only shame in making mistakes is failure to learn from them. Sounds like you got it handled.

A little unorthodox but this would work if the exit isn't a busy road which sounds like it wasn't.

Hang that right like you did. Soon as you straighten out throw on the 4 ways. When you're sure it's clear straight back until you can hang a right to get back on the highway and carry on.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box. Never be afraid to stop and study your surroundings before you just do do do and get yourself in a bad situation in an unfamiliar area.

Don’t feel stupid. Mistakes happen. How you handle them is what’s important.

I’m a new guy, I’ve made mistakes on my route, what made it better is I saw it and rerouted. And told my dispatcher.

Everyone looks at a truck and thinks, “I can do that! It’s just driving, right?” Driving to the general public consists of holding the steering wheel, turning up the tunes, and letting the gps guide you down the big wide interstate as you sit there happy and empty headed wondering about the next time you get to play pocket pool. Easy!

You should already know by this point that’s not true. You have to see EVERYTHING. You have to recognize hazards before they become hazardous to you. You flow in traffic. You read every sign. You understand every sign. You read the road. You watch your mirrors because many of your hazards you will face will be coming from behind you.

When you’re rolling down the open road, take the opportunity to listen and learn stoicism. Calmness is like a superpower to a driver. Be sure to get good sleep. Enjoy sleep. Sleeping is a wonderful reward. Nothing recovers and recharges the soul like sleep does.

    Messages can wait.
Go to nearest safe place, rest area, truck stop not shoulder of ramps.
