Long story short, my 2016 Peterbilt 579 brokedown due to DEF issues, took Peterbilt 6 months to fix. Lost my O/O contract job at Action Resources because of it.
4 years Hazmat Tanker Experience. Zero Accidents, clean record. TWIC/PASSPORT.
I'm up for both Company and O/O positions (preferably in the South but will go anywhere) and I've been applying to many companies but having issues:
1) Schneider dinged me on Sleep Apnea. Yes, I know Sleep Apnea is serious but I do NOT have it and not interested in a 3 month DOT card. I literally just got a 2 year DOT card from local doctor yesterday (6-30-23) there is no FMCSA law requiring it (sleep apnea) for a dot health card, only certain companies require it for their own policy. So I need a Company that keeps things simple and does not force Sleep Apnea on drivers.
2) I have an ESA Card (not a Service Animal) for a big, fat Maine Coon Cat. I can't abandon him for a job. I know Tanker is last industry for pets, but majority of places I've delivered chemicals to don't really care as long as he stays in the truck at all times.
3) BROKE, 6 months without work has been brutal. I have enough fuel to drive my truck about 600 miles from Fayette, AL but that's it. Need a company that will give a tag, insurance, etc. expenses upfront and deduct from settlement as time goes on. Or, Company Driver position that will cover transportation, room/board, food, during orientation. (I can leave cat with someone for 1 week)
4) Companies like Trimac, Penn Tank, KAG, Heniff, etc. Have said my application looks great, but they just do not have enough loads right now to hire. I'm desperate and will literally go anywhere and do anything, pumps offs, air offs, etc.
My truck is Tanker specced (mid roof sleeper, high Rise 5th wheel) so I can't afford to swap it out with a normal 5th wheel. That might put me overheight for Van/Reefer but maybe not Flatbed. My form 2290 +$500 literally expired yesterday (June 30) not sure if there's a grace period.
Thanks in advance for any comments or insights!
Sidenote: If any of you Small Fleet Tanker Owners want to take me under your wing, and help me get back on the road, I would be very grateful and would run like a machine to make you millions! $$$

Call PT brokers or something like that, can use their trailer for like $300/week(what it used to be out of your check) High fifth wheel doesn’t matter on hopper bottom,
Or RFG logistics, they’re out of Omaha.
Can use their trailers.
May be worth a phone call, PT is out of Cleveland MSpusherman, 77fib77 and MockOverdrive Thank this. -
What about Quality carriers ?

That movie made me want to become a trucker!

Any chance you got a PTO on that rig? If you do try end or side dumps. Many carriers that can lease you on and as long as your 5th wheel is pinable a tanker truck will slot right into end dump. More then a few who can get you started day 1.
Best plan C however may be to park it and go drive for a company for a few months to rebuild your nestegg.77fib77 and MockOverdrive Thank this. -

Never done rear or side dump, I checkout some youtube vids.
Yeah you might be right about just parking it and running Company for now. It's a shame because the truck runs great after Peterbilt hit me for $7k, but being broke, operating costs will have to wait.austinmike Thanks this. -
You can try Indian River since you do tanks. Not sure if they do owner ops or not but can go company for a bit to get going again.
