Best money I have spent for my truck. It has saved my rear many times. Get to the shipper after hours for a preload tank and they haven't included a copy of the wash ticket. Quick call to on duty dispatch, they were able to email me a copy and I was able to print it for the customer.
When loading in Canada, it can be hard finding a fax machine so they know to just email me all necessary documents. I don't have to waste drive time hunting for a fax machine, I just pull over at a rest area and print everything I need to get back in the US.
First trip into Canada

It was a few years ago that a "Customs Fee" went up to help pay AG costs. If you cross border more than 30 times in a year, then get a transponder.
Here is the info:
User Fee, Transponder, and Decal Information
User Fee, Transponder, and Decal Information
Pay a Single Border Crossing Fee
Benefits: Use this for a one-time border crossing.
Cost: $13.79 (U.S.) per vehicle
Pay Annual User Fee
Benefits: Use this for unlimited border crossings in a calendar year.
This option is intended for a vehicle ( more than 30 crossings) that either:
is new to DTOPS, or has never had an active transponder.
Cost: $410.23 (U.S.) per calendar year

What is the Decal/Transponder Online Procurement System (DTOPS)?

Scotty’s should of had fax, as does Champlain Mobil at the top, top off fuel and grab a shower, smaller place, used to make saguenay and back from there.
scale on 15 is easy to get around
you need to swap canadia HOS and follow the regs so make sure you get 36 NOT 34, also no DUIs ever, they won’t let you over
how far up are you going?Last edited: Jul 5, 2023

I would have to disagree with switching over to Canada HOS. [I was yelled at for doing so many years ago but LOGs didn't explain why.]
The main differences are the 16 hr day vs 14, two 15 min rest breaks vs 30, 10 hr vs 8 hr sleep break, 36hr reset vs 34, and at least 24 hr off every two weeks, along with having 2 weeks of logs vs 1.
Only if you are stopped in Canada, then switch over E-logs to Can 1 to access the two weeks, otherwise, you risk the ire of US DOT officers with Canadian HOS hours once you return. You do need to have a 10 hr break before returning if you exceed your day.
When I did Canadian Regional, I always did my 36 hr reset and then kept logs and US DOT happy by using US HOS. The 24 hr was only a problem if I had been running on my 70 hr clock when I simply took a 36 instead of a 24.

I always switch to Canadian HOS when I hit the border as I get an extra 2 hrs driving and don't have to take a 30 min break.
I've been inspected many times by US DOT and never had an issue. One inspector questions why I exceeded 11hr drive and I only had to show him the location in Quebec and he was fine.
As far as the company/safety is concerned, exceeding US HOS while in Canada does show up on their system as a log violation, but I have yet to hear them say that I should or shouldn't do whatever.
I rarely run recap so I don't run into the issue of not having available Canadian HOS. If that should happen I would just stay on US HOS to keep the Elog in my truck happy.Last edited: Jul 6, 2023

We have a couple drivers that cross with their dogs, but I don't know if they needed any specific paperwork. At the very least I imagine you would be able to show that it had all it's shots should they ask.RockinChair Thanks this.

I always had proof of vaccination with me, and in two years of crossing the border at least two trips per week I was never once asked for it.RockinChair, Redtwin and Siinman Thank this.

Phone Canada Customs on that so you don't have to abandon FIFI at the border. Not a subject you want to depend on with 3rd hand hearsay.RockinChair and Magoo1968 Thank this.
