Yeah, I remember when the LTL boys struck in 94 or so. We (Conway at the time), we so blown out with freight it was unreal. Every now and then we'd have a customer call us and ask if we would go to a union dock and rescue a shipment.
    It was always NO.

A UPS parcel strike would be a lose/lose for LTL business just like last time in 97. You'll never make money on a >100# shipment going to somebody's house. It's a gonna be a loss for the LTL company. And yes, all these shippers are going to find a way to move their boxes of goods, nobody's saying they wont. But, you're going to send a p/d driver who gets paid 30+ an hour with his long box to somebody's house 3x during the late morning hours for consignee to not be there, because they're at work of course, then all those silly little package shipments are going back to the terminal, then there's going to be a mountain of failed deliveries sitting in osd and will call thats going to take weeks to get sorted out, of course most of it's going back to the shipper in the end, etc etc.. it was like that at conway, roadway, holland, overnite, american freight, everywhere back in 97. It's going to be a sh*tshow in 2023 too if it happens.

None of that parcel freight from UPS is going on loadboards. What little of the LTL freight that turns out to be hot and paying well that doesn't get taken by established LTL carriers will quickly be covered by desperate ones for cheap. Until fuel doubles in price there's still a bunch more more zombie carriers out here other than just Yellow that will hang in there and keep rates down.

That's why you don't put it on the street unless you have an appointment.
    Simple stuff, really

There’s also the fake appointment, because appointment clerks couldn’t possibly be expected to actually do the jobs they’re paid for.

Kinda funny but sad story. Got a text last night at 2 AM from a coworker and they asked if my check cleared.

I work late nights (hell, it's 3 AM now) but I got curious and pulled up my bank app.

Yup. I got paid. Paycheck is there.

    - same, just checking on you.

That's where we are at now. Not sure for how much longer this will work out but even management is getting skiddish.

On a side note, we developed some "gallows humour".

I negotiated with Dave that I would help him secure the water filtration cooler in the lobby in exchange for him fighting off Greg while I get the Epson 4-in-1 printer/copier/fax/scanner combo.

Aside from the new office chairs, those are contested items.

Those fossils won't last a week having to actually work at the bottom of a seniority ladder. Their lack of planning isn't the hiring market's problem.
