Two weeks ago I caught my five-year old red-handed trying to sneak candies from the top shelf out of the kitchen. I didn't have to say anything but his face turned several shades whiter and had the biggest shocked face I've seen in a while.

So anyway, after I read your comment I handed my phone over to my operations supervisor so he could read your comment. As he handed me back my phone he gave me the same shocked face that my five-year old gave me two weeks ago.

He kinda looked around and his response was "SIGH..... No point hiding it any longer. Layoffs are coming. There is no way to avoid it any longer"

It will probably go like CF did and be a sweeping auction terminal to terminal with consolidation of equipment depending on terminal space .
I'm sure Taylor Martin is already mapping things out as CF went really fast , now with online bidding it will go even faster .
The real estate will go to developers, other trucking companies and management companies that will lease out the office space .
CF was gone in a flash and alot of theyre equipment was bought up for salvage and scrap which will probably be the fate of yellows older equipment.
The lower mile stuff will be bought up by other ltl companies.
And of course the sleeper units will go back to penske if they haven't already.

Siinman, Oxbow and road_runner Thank this.

Man, you know, I remember when CF went out. I actually drove by their yard that weekend (unintentionally). And they had a big sign on the locked gate that said they were closed and to call this number for more information.
But what I was getting to is I don't remember a mass exodus of CF equipment. All I remember is that everything was gone in a week.
Yellow is gonna be a different kettle of fish all together. At least 4 times as big and management that couldn't hit their ##### with both hands. In short, it's gonna be a mess.
Better get while you can @road_runner. Seriously dude. When you go to work tomorrow, look around. Every one of those guys will be wanting the same job you'll be wanting 2 months from now.
Read the Financials. They simply don't have enough money to keep it alive. And dwindling freight volumes will only hasten the inevitable outcome.
    Good luck.

Siinman, Old_n_gray, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this.

Yeah I think you are right but you might be surprised how fast that auction will go , I watched the CF auctions and it was over in about 30 days .

Yeah, but you know, you just didn't see that much of their old equipment on the road. Every now and then you'd see one, but it seems to me, and I could be completely wrong, that most of it got scrapped.
And right now would be a pretty crappy time to dispose of stuff that's 20 or 30 years old.
This is gonna take a minute.

Siinman, Oxbow and bzinger Thank this.

Thanks. The life boats are welded once we lost the Holland logo. I pretty much have to jump now or try to stay onboard as long as possible because of my insurance .

The worst part from all of this process is that everyone I've talked to is kept completely in the dark. Both by the Union and the company. About 90% of the information I get comes from this thread so I can disseminate it to my coworkers.

We finally ganged up on my supervisor after he gave me back my phone and flat out asked him what is up with our accounts. Why is the bill count so low?

"Well guys... I got several emails now from very good shippers. Pretty much most of them sent me a screenshot of a online post your union president made. It featured a gravestone with our company logo superimposed on it. You tell me, what am I supposed to say when they ask for a reason not to pull their freight?"

My buddy that is ranked below me starts earlier than me. I am going to message him tomorrow to see if he got layed off. If he did, that's it for me. My other supervisor that I am super cool with is taking his family to the lake tomorrow. I already told him that if something happened tomorrow that I would round up my wife and kids and join them. Might as well start my weekend early and be with good company (while finishing my employment with a bad one).

    C'est la vie.
