    Thanks @JB7 for the info. I'll try to remember it for next time.

    They can be slow to respond. Wait a couple of weeks and try to call them to inquire about your app.

    Marten will take you with 11 months experience.

    Normally -- they want AT LEAST 6 months experience.

    The others recommended here may (or may not) want you to have at least one year for driving time.

    The market right now is tough for newer drivers. You'll likely need a tough hide and be ready for some rejections, until you get a "yes".

    On the other hand -- Martin may take you on from the start.

    In Nevada, as in a few other states, there is simple qualifications, being a contractor is not disqualifying.
    I have 1099 drivers who make up a majority of my drivers pool, while you are right on a few things, the tools and the insurance points are not relative when there is a relationship as it is setup here. The driver has decision-making powers on the work, I don't unless I have to tap one to help out and they are compensated for it as if it was a load they picked out.

    State laws do differ while most are very similar to the DOL and IRS requirements/tests. MD has a 3 prong test with 18 criteria, mostly yes or no questions.
    Below from a Nevada Labor Law firm.
    1. Definition of independent contractor under Nevada law
    Independent contractors are self-employed, as opposed to traditional employees. Under Nevada’s wage and hour laws, workers are considered independent contractors if they meet the following three criteria:
    1. The worker has an employer identification number or social security number, or has filed an income tax return for earnings from self-employment in the previous year (unless the worker is a non-citizen); and
    2. The worker is required by the contract with the employer to maintain any necessary business licenses and occupational license, insurance, or bonding; and
    3. At least three of the following five criteria are true:
      1. The worker can hire his/her own employees;
      2. The worker has control over the time the work is performed (unless the worker and employer have an agreement about the time);
      3. The worker controls the means and manner of doing the work and the result of the work;
      4. The worker is not required to work exclusively for one employer (unless required by law or by a temporary contract); and/or
      5. The worker makes a substantial investment in his/her own business (including leases and licensing regarding tools and workplaces)1
    (Note that Nevada law has separate but similar tests for determining whether a worker is an independent contractor for insurance purposes or workers’ compensation purposes.2)

    A worker can still be considered an independent contractor even if he/she does not meet all the aforementioned conditions: The employer would just need to provide other evidence to convince a court that the worker falls outside the bounds of a standard employee.3

    Applying the above criteria where do your workers' fall? Many, especially smaller companies, misclassify either accidentally or on purpose for years and never get called on it.

    I say forget filing for unemployment.....you've got quite a few companies who will take you, the 1099 company is in the past. Cut those losses pick one of those companies, and burn up those highways. You've got good choices, take one. The time it will take to worry about unemployment that'll take weeks. Maybe months. You could be out here working making several thousand dollars instead of worrying about unemployment.

    However, it’s going to take a week or two to go through the processes of landing a job. Of those days, a few hour investment, of a single day, could net the OP a pretty nice check. The govt people will be doing all the legwork.

    I love that op was working in an illegal payment method that just so happens to not pay taxes on. Then everyone is telling him to use services he refused to pay for when he was working.....

    I don’t think you’re completely accurate, here. Many new drivers to the industry simply can’t get picked up by a reputable company and/or don’t understand the industry. Many get preyed on and exploited by these companies. It’s not always their fault. Going to the unemployment office for guidance is still the OP’s right, as they are presumably a legal citizen who has paid various taxes over the years. It’ll be up to the agency’s staff to determine what the OP is entitled to.

    I’m not sure what you’re trying to say
    But 1099 they do file tax and pay taxes too, only different that they pay it when they file, not necessary with every paycheck like W2

    ducnut and bryan21384 Thank this.
