I don’t understand why the DOT doesnt inspect every yellow truck they see. The trucks are a danger to the public. I have to use zipties and paracord almost every time I go out.

Stick a fork in her. She's done. Yellow shut the doors Friday ahead of an expected bankruptcy filing. Going to be some interesting times ahead in the LTL world.

I honestly have no idea how this isn’t all over the news wire.

For those that will be affected by this, know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. This company deserves to go down.
I was a full time local driver/warehouseman/yardman (combination worker or whatever the hell they call it) twice... Once before the 2009 or whatever slashed collective agreement, and once after that. Rare to be employed twice by them, but it happens.
Before the members voted to gut the original collective (I wasn't employed there anymore when that vote had taken place), it wasn't the greatest work environment, but the pay and benefits sort of made it worthwhile. They'd even have things like golf outings and whatnot, to keep morale up. Hot/cold warehouse work, driving junk trucks literally unsafe for the road, hand stacking tires in a 120 degree trailer, whatever... We made it work, beyond what we should've made work.
And then I came back a few years later, after the gutted contract. What I saw was disturbing. The same junk equipment, the same junk warehouse, the same junk forklifts, the same non-functioning pallet jacks that I'm expected to roll a 2,000 lb tote around on...
And a demoralized workforce also now too, working for substandard LTL wages. They even bumped me up to the top wage rate before I even stepped a foot into that depot for my first day of work at my 'new' job, even though I retained zero seniority.
And the abuse by management was something I'd never witnessed at the 'old' Yellow before. Old management, while still all business, were approachable as people. The new were not... Barked orders. Were combative.
The world is better off without that sweatshop, and good drivers will find other roles in both union and non-union environments.
When good employees give their all, and it's still not quite good enough, let the company fail. It was mismanaged, and propped up too many times by the "too big to fail" mentality.
Most Yellow employees will have experience that will allow them to easily transition into another company. They won't have to be trained how to back up into a loading bay.Gearjammin' Penguin, dwells40, 48Packard and 8 others Thank this. -
Consolidated Freightways, all over again.
beastr123 and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
When my dispatcher called me he said "he was no longer needed". All of management was terminated effective Friday. I've already been out of work since Tuesday.
I understand that somewhere out there that there is still a linehaul guy going out and maybe a P&D peddler or two doing business as usual. They will do this for another day or two and still be paid. But they are doing recovery work.
I've said this two of three years ago. But there is no problem so bad that YRC is not able to make this worse. They should have left the rest of us be and let us operate under our old names.
I am Reddaway. I am Holland. We did nothing wrong. We got adopted by an abusive and destructive stepparent and we are now paying the consequences of their actions. New Penn knows this as much as the rest of us. We never asked for this.
I already told my dispatcher that I am available all weekend for a bbq. It is no longer fraternizing if everyone has been fired together. The other thing I have to say that is worth mentioning is that I am thankful for is you guys. A bunch of random people fanned out over the rest of the country working for more competent companies willing to lend out a few moments of your time to reach out to people like me.
Thank you for your friendship.PaulMinternational, Speed_Drums, dancecanyon and 21 others Thank this. -

Not at all Cornflakes was a calculated planned shutdown almost 20 years in the makin
Started bout ‘82 with purchase of old central states in Ann Arbor which began the creation of the original Con-Way system
Over time as the regionals grew and gained market share
Mostly from CF funneling freight there...their regions inter-line established
Then all the regionals combined under one banner...CF did what most everyone (xcept the Union who still refused to believe they’d do it) knew was gonna happen..,,
They abruptly shut CF down and stranded every #### road driver they could
While amassing a very strong police presence at every yard to remove every 3d employee and keep everyone coming to work that Tuesday am outblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I just saw a news feed with some interviews of a couple office people in Kansas city and they are blaming the union for yellows demise , probably the same geniuses that help run the company.
