Retirement plans recommendations for truckers?

Vanguard lets us purchase weekly, Empower only monthly. We drip feed into both for just what you said - DCA. When the market is down, we're buying cheap - when it comes back, the gains are realized.

Anyone that's at a job that offers matched 401k and doesn't opt in is missing out on a great opportunity.

Got curious following this discussion and had a look at everything, it's recovered a bit from last years beating. All time on the 3 year old Roth is 4.11%, all time on the 12 year plus Empower is 5.2%. CD's are in for 9-15 months @ 5%.

Total was $390 in retirement, $105 in CD's. No debts. I think we'll be OK, not living large, but comfortable. I've still got 15 years or more earning potential in me.

Some pretty good advice and insights here.

I almost bought an old houseboat with a blown engine when I was trucking

Was gonna buy a large fifth wheel camper and put it in a Rv park not too far from the truck terminal when I realized that the slip rent at the nearby marina was the same as the Rv park and a houseboat with a blown engine was cheap .
And I figured the ladies would think living on a house boat was much more romantic than living in a campground ….

 

I dropped out in 9th grade, amid my 3rd stretch. Wasn't stupid just didn't take it serious until the 3rd time, then got into some trouble and just never went back to school. I am going to retire (i.e. die) likely while at work. So there's that.

 

Was talking with a Schlumberger employee last week and they just increased their 401K matching to 10% of your pay! Great if you can get it…

 

For cash look at learning the forex market. Where the same age its what I'm doing. It 70% recession proof. But not war proof. Learn to garden and hunt if you don already know.

I'm sure it's nice up there. I've never been north of Flint, though, so I've never seen it. I like Wisconsin a lot.

 

I like Wisconsin a lot too. Especially along WI-29.

 

Unfortunately, I think a lot of Illinois refugees like it a lot, too. It's growing quite a bit.
