Why is every trucking company hiring when supposedly theirs no freight and rates our crappy? Do they know something we don't?
Seems like some of these companies should be downsizing instead of expanding, in my unpopular opinion. I know for these companies to get contracted freight they need to show capacity but then half the time the contracted freight is a nightmare to deal with,. loads not ready, no empty trailers etc .
To me it just seemed easier to keep one trailer and do live loads all the time anyhow what's with all these companies hiring when there ain't no freight

You really answered your own question. There are companies out there that don't have to rely solely on spot market freight. They have a good amount of contracted freight. If they utilize broker freight, they have a good enough reputation and long standing relationships with those brokers to get preferential treatment over a certain population of owners and small fleet owners. They also have enough size to cover all the loads they may have available from one shipper for instance. They sometimes might take a loss on a spot market load, but their costs are different from the owners. Big companies get way better discounts on fuel, repairs and such so I imagine it makes it easier to run drivers. Don't get it twisted though, they aren't going to operate so cheap all the time that they lose money. A company as big as Schneider, Werner, or Swift has so many customers that they probably are almost entirely drop and hook. I much prefer that model as opposed to live loading. That's one of the biggest advantages of driving for a mega in my opinion.indy89, Albertaflatbed, MidwestResident and 4 others Thank this.
