Way back when almost everything on the road was a cabover. On hot days in the high desert, most everyone ran with the little door open that accessed the radiator cap. That extra little bit of air helped.
Where a truck would run 180-185 on lower elevations, running the high desert saw 210-220 all day long. Never really saw any ill effects though. It's a dry heat, don't you know. lol
The journey begins - purchased a truck.

Just curious here. How long are these sitting in the stage/holding yard? The other one is how far are they taking them to the site/setup?

Don’t let it get to you brother— must be something to do with aging— 15 - 20 years ago I could work the iron like a monkey all day long— with a hangover— and never think twice about it— today, I have to make myself crawl up an 8’ ladder to change a lightbulb — just don’t get yourself in a jackpot you can’t get out of4mer trucker, Old_n_gray, IH Truck Guy and 5 others Thank this.

I thought about what @Oxbow wrote during the day and talked to another buddy today -
I graduated with good Math and English, average technical drawing and poor physics and science. So he broke it down to my level for me, and as I understand . . .
Human body , say it has a cubic foot capacity in lungs - say 20% O2 content. The air density (molecules per cu.ft) at 9,000ft is less, so flatlander struggles to function mentally and physically when less oxygen is being delivered to muscles/brain.
Diesel engine is running richer with fuel, creates more heat, produces less boost pressure.
The one that I'm still puzzled about - does the radiator suffer reduced cooling because of the 'thinner' air, /less density - or is a result of the above point?
It's been a long time since I've dragged loads in the mountains. KS - CA in a ODFL truck, 2008 - 2015 model trucks, is a bit different to the 1995 12.7 S60. I've relearned how to caress the unit loaded in the heat up the grades keeping pyro less than 900 , and boost 20-25 psi, toggling fan on and off, tp keep temps 190 - 205F at most.4mer trucker, Siinman, Geronimo17 and 6 others Thank this. -
About 6 weeks, maybe longer. I think they want to start erecting starting October. They're going to the south - across the valley - I've yet to cross that bridge. May or may not be there for the transition.4mer trucker, Siinman, cke and 3 others Thank this.
