My insurance renews in January. I pay monthly until around May. Then I pay the remaining premium.
It is nice not to worry if something happens, medically or financially, I don't worry about the business DOT authority being shut down.
I only save a couple bucks for each monthly processing fee.
OP: My experience, trucking is worth it. -
The secret is pre egr Series 60 Detroit 12.7 or 2nd choice Cummins n14. Together with a 10 speed manual transmission its the most reliable setup out there. Parts are cheap to buy and anybody can work on those trucks with just a tool set from Home Depot. Trucks themselves are also cheap, Petes and KWs from that era are 2-3 more expensiveRideandrepair and gekko1323 Thank this.

Playing devils advocate here. 5 years in the industry is about how long it would take a big name brand driver to really get a feel for day to day costs. Oil changes, tires, repairs, ect. Also makes sure he knows the types of symptoms to look for when stuff breaks ontop of having at least a general feel for what is needed to move a given type of freight, where it comes from and goes to as well as many other things like that which only experpnce brings knowledge of. Sure a FNG can buy a truck, learn on it and become a successful owner. But there is a reason 9 in 10 OOs fail their first year 7 of 10 the second and half the rest the 3rd
To a point yes. But it depends on what your doing too. Id rather have a big kitty with a 13 or 18 for doing end dump work. That 12.7 is a wee bit of a dog for doing this work. Not bad mind you and very workable but pulling 64 at 80k with a 12.7 and 10 tuned for reliabity and fuel is pure pain compared to a big cat. Also had interior stuff break off those weenys and volvas on nasty roads.....though i cant claim my plastic pete has been much better lol.Flat Earth Trucker and buddyd157 Thank this. -
My old man owned a logging truck with a 12.7L DDEC 4/18 speed. Hauled about 95k lbs out of the mountains every day no problem. Just too bad the thing needed jake solenoids just about every year.

And sometimes when you get older a marriage is a little easier if you're gone 26 or 27 days a month. For both parties. You can still talk a lot, that's the only good thing about cell phones.Flat Earth Trucker, Brandt and DUNE-T Thank this.
