That's great to hear. Did any of your kids want to be a truck driver when they were growing up looking at you?
Did you or your wife encourage them to get educated, or was it purely their choice?
Bidding a fond farewell to flatbedding

It’s one of four children and I actually tried to discourage him from driving. Once I saw he was set on it I did my best to give him a solid start. Oldest daughter is 25 and a charge nurse RnBsn on a step down cardiac unit that regularly holds peoples lives in her hand and is currently working on masters degree as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Youngest son will have his private pilot’s license, self funded, before he graduates high school, is planning on being a Coastie then going to school to work on aircraft. Youngest daughter is 16 and already has a business plan for her own startup company while working as a vet tech and will graduate 1 year ahead of time with honors.Vampire, Speed_Drums, Bud A. and 11 others Thank this.

Their choice . All of them have seen the road and didn’t have a urge to travel . I’m kinda thankful but would have supported them either way

That's something to be very proud of. RnBsn - as you said - will hold many lives in her hand in her career.

First 7 days at new outfit. All training days riding with other guys. Shotgun sucks. Didn’t mind it with the kid I guess because of being focused on what he was doing but i was going a little stir crazy with an experienced guy in the driver seat. Pneumatic wagons are interesting. Very basic to understand but difficult to run effectively. A notch on this valve half a notch on that valve a little tweak here then there. It seems like black magic to a point. I’ll get it but it will take some practice to master it. Taking a few days off with the wife that was planned long before I even heard of this opportunity so I’m scheduled to do first solo trip Wednesday.

My father has been a doctor since 1964. Still practicing at age 85.Vampire, Speed_Drums, Bud A. and 4 others Thank this. -
My girl was one of 5 kids raised in a dilapidated single wide in WV. Got 2 PhD’s and 3 highly paid managers out of that situation. Dad was retired/disabled/ crazy ex police officer. Mom was a nurse who later became disabled due to being stubborn lifting patients without assistance.
My grandfather was a surgeon. My dad was a steel mill electrician. I am a truck driver. I am the only business owner ever in my family from either side.Last edited: Sep 30, 2023
